imho, people flocked to facebook for the promise of 'free speech', 'unmoderated content' etc, and quickly found out that it just boiled down to a melee without any rules.
And when they left, they burned the bridges.
Then the 'rona....
Even tho there are few people left in here, there are still folks looking to get started, and there is good info to be found, so we carry on!!

I'm not convinced Facebook is the problem. Facebook is not new. It existed 10 - 12 years ago. At that time EO and the other sites were active. Some members were on multiple forums. There was a feeling of comradery regardless of carrier.

That, for whatever reason, has been lost.

Facebook might be a part of it, as well as Youtube, TikTok, etc. I think younger folks are less inclined to engage in dialogue vs listening to a video or podcast on a topic. Never watched it, but as example that "What the Truck" podcast has over 34K subscribers.

Just like with the no name vans, it took time for things like facebook to take over. Considering that is the primary spot where everyone is now, I think that was the catalyst.

Perhaps, but even if Facebook is/has attracted people, they are most likely just using their carriers page. Why?, lack of comradery. Imho, of course.

As strange as it may seem, it is almost Fathers Day here in Florida too. I was asked what i wanted for my special day, couldn't think of anything, so I guess that means life is good. My grandkids and great grandkids will visit in the middle of the week, but that will really be because my wife will be celebrating her birthday so she will get the spotlight. Well deserved, too. I'm staying idle today so I don't get caught in any No King Day protests. I hung up my expediter keys a couple of years ago. I'd rather be working but there isn't much available for ex-expediters who have more mileage on them than they had on their last sprinter van. One of my drivers reached 84 before he had to retire, I'm not quite there yet, but living in Neutral isn't as interesting as being in Drive. Your invitation to visit Tennessee, Skyraider, is tempting since we have a nephew near Knoxville, but that trip is a little long right now. My bones will do just fine on that drive, but I'm not confident the car will. Obviously, I have nothing important to say but I wanted you to now there are eyes reading the postings on EO even if fingers don't write much anymore. Keep it up. Old timers rule!!

Getting some time off before the switch to Load One. We were caught a bit surprised by the Ascent shutdown news, but it makes sense. Time will tell if it's going to work as well. Ascent was very good to work with, going back to the Active Aero days.

Well, I'm a noob trying to get into the courier biz. I don't think I want to do anything outside of the 50mi radius, but time will tell.
Sooo... I'm already appreciating some of the older posts and the interactions I've already had here, and while I don't spend much time on anything "social media" (is a forum now called social media?) I'm eager to glean as much information about logistics occupations (being independent) as possible. I'm out of the "tech-rat race" and have no intentions of looking back.
