Run for decades by the American "left", Detroit is now a disaster. It, like all big government models, saw no problem with running up debt. They believed that it is always best to live in a world of deficit spending and spiraling tax rates. They drove out hard working citizens, ran businesses out of town, with punitive taxes and a total refusal to maintain even basic city services.

Detroit is now in bankruptcy. The policies that have led to this we see being repeated in Washington. We already know the result will be.

Just about every city ran by a democrat is in the red. Ok.....maybe all of them. Chicago is the next big one in trouble and currently on a downward slide.

Could you imagine all the skyscrapers in Chicago covered in gang signs and tagged on every non broken window? Detroit already reminds me of mega city 1 from the new-ish movie Dredd. Chicago would be so much worse

The money is running out there too. There is little left to borrow. It will happen, not only in Chicago, but nation wide unless we fix it and quickly.

There is no "both sides" in Detroit, it is now, and has been for decades, a one party city. It was, however, corruption and greed to be sure.

The last Republican mayor of Detroit was Louis Miriani and he left office in 1962, I was 12 then. Since it has been a parade of left wing radicals who have done little but buy votes to stay in office, borrowing money to pay for those votes, and now the time has come to pay the piper.

They have driven out any productive people with punitive taxes. They signed contracts with public employee unions, which should not even exist, promising lavish pensions and benefits, and not once doing anything to fund those obligations. They could not fund them, they were too busy padding their own pockets and buying votes with every nickle that they took in or could borrow.

There is no "both sides" in Detroit, it is now, and has been for decade, a one party city.

Not really. Detroit has been controlled by the democrats for years. Same thing in Chicago. Only one place to put the blame there as well.
