I realize everyone is seeking some type of "legal protection".
I have experinced a guy trying to get into my truck while I
was alseep, parked in a decent parking lot at 9am, about 200
meters from the Centerline MI Police Dept. A lot of guys carry
a hunting knife, not so good as the perp may be on top of you
and force you to use it, (if you are fortunate to live that long
Is a hunting knife legal to carry? In the US, In Canada?

You could nail him with a flare pistol,the type that is used on boats,This is legal everywhere,only problem is you get 1 shot,then have to reload.Try hornet spray,shoots a stream about 10-15 feet and will deter just about everybody.I had to use Hornet Spray at JFK Airport in NYC one night,as these dregs kept trying to clean my windshield ,then demanded money.Left the SOB writhing on the ground..

I'm certainly not a lawyer, but in Canada, self defense is usually decided at trial. You'll be arrested if you stab someone(don't even think about a gun)and likely charged with assault if not worse.
You'd probably get aquitted but that's the way things work up here.
