Times have changed

I have been thinking, as dangerous as that is, about my daddy's daddy and how he raised eight kids back in the 60s and 70s. See Granpaw Joe worked as an appliance repairman for Sears, and my Granny took care of the house as a housewife. They didn't struggle either. They didn't have everything, but they didn't do without. Now I have just my wife and myself to take care of, and I'm bringing in alot more than Grandpaw Joe did I'm sure, and it's not easy. What's happened?

He did this without governement assitance. No welfare, food stamps, or any of that. He worked his one job, and repaired a few things for people he knew on the side. At one point in the 70s he even purchased a small place in the hills outside of Hot Springs,AR. It was a place to go and stay and visit Granny's kin.

The only help he had was when their home burned to the ground. Friends in the small community where they lived took in my dad and his siblings and others helped my Grandpaw Joe rebuild the house. It would be a shock to see that today. Everyone would be sitting back waiting on the governement to do something. What's happened?

Joe...somewhere along the line it changed from an "us" society to a Me society, it all about me.....The 4 Muskateers will prolly chime in and blame some social government programs....I don't think thats it...why? because what you described also happened in Canada as well. They had programs when times were good...somewhere alnog the line it all got messed up.
I be leaning towards old fashioned "greed" I want more and I want it now.

OVM, you got it right. It's government social programs. People have "wanted it" all along. The difference is that prior to things like the "great society" they worked for it. Along comes the liberals who figure out that they can buy votes by the Robin Hood method and we wind up where we are today. Someone analyzed the map after the "stolen" election to check out the red/blue. Interestingly enough, the colors divided very strongly according to liberal/welfare areas. Detroit/Chicago/NYC/S.F./L.A. etc that are hugely welfare/handout areas were blue and the areas with less dense welfare/liberal population were all red. So yes, while you'll choose to say it's my "muskateer" attitude it's really the reason you correctly identified. It's the government fomenting socialism and we have the number one socialist poster boy to lead the charge this time.

Once in a while I do stumble unto to something...

Thanks Leo....unfortunately I think you maybe correct the social programs have gone way over the line...they( politicians) have found a way to buy votes...thru funded useless programs that make the people dependant on the system...instead of themselves.....There I said it...ya'll happy? *L*

maybe the founding fathers had something when they set things up; only property owners could vote, because they paid the taxes.
one man one vote just set things up for buying votes, which our political type have gotten very good at.

why do we have a tax code that even lawyers can't understand? so they can take money from us while protecting the money of their supporters... then use the money to buy votes .... at least in the early years the politicians were honest about doing things for their supporters and themselves. ////// today they do things 'for the common good'.
