Tax Question

I've been doing some research on taxes and having more than one vehicle. It looks like the minute you add a second vehicle for shipping, you lose the standard milage deduction and have to go to Depreciation and Actual Expenses for each vehicle. That's a major loss of tax deductions if I'm right! How do those of you with more than one vehicle in service handle the tax deductions? Any information would be appreciated!

We have been told, and it may not be correct, it depends on wether the vehicle(s) is(are) used only in your business or are for hire, leased to a carrier, etc. For example, if you use a 1-ton van to deliver flowers from your shop, the standard deduction applies. Now, if you take that same van and lease it to XYZ carriers and haul flowers for various companies, you are supppose to use actual expenses.

For good info and questions go to trucknet.com and go to tax forum. They have a cpa who knows trucking and many others that are very knowledgable.
