Can anybody tell me how a EGR valve acts when it starts going out? My Dodge Sprinter has 74K on it ahd seems to be loosing power. Had all filters changed and that has not helped. Tried injector cleaners also with no luck. Thanks in advance, Volunteer

It could be that or several other things. Take it to dealer and have them hook it up to computer. If the EGR is failing, that should pick it up.

The dealer I talked to about buying a sprinter I mentioned the EGR problem and he told me to just pull the plug! It'll run without it.

Edit: I meant if it's running so bad and you want to get home you can unplug it temporarily.

I would think your check engine light would come on,and you wouldn't be alerted to other problems that my come up.The other thing is,how will it effect your warranty? i would get something in writting from the dealer to cover yourself and i would let there service department do it before i left the lot with it,you can reset the computers by taking the battery cable off on most vehicles, don't know about benz motors.

this is one that I can answer!!

When the EGR valve goes out the computer will not let the engine go above 2200 RPM. Sone kind of saftey feature they tell me.

I drove home from Chicago (750 miles) at 2200 RPM 3 weeks ago. It would get to about 65 MPH but would take a mile or two to get there and then if someone pulled in front of you and you had to slow down....oh boy. The Jelico hill on 75 at the KY / TN boarder was interesting also.

I called freightliner and they told me If I wanted to stop in at a dealer in KY they might be able to look at it on Friday...and this was Tues. morning.

I bought a 2004 sprinter because they redesigned the EGR valve after all the problems on the earlier versions. Guess they didn't make it better on the 04's, just alot more expensive!

Ugh. That is very bad news on the Sprinter. As I said in the other Sprinter thread I will not be buying one. Back to the Chevy dealer for me....
