This 'teacher' SHOULD have been HUNG for this! At best she showed VERY poor judgement, at worst she COULD have endangered the safety and welfare of children. Either way, whether or not she intended to harm kids, she needs to go. It is difficult to fathom how a supposed educated person could act in such a manner. The fact that she resigned should not have saved her from FAR harsher punishment.

NEW YORK (AP) — A teacher has received a warning letter from the New York City Conflicts of Interest Board for making her fifth graders write Christmas cards to a friend serving time in prison.


The cards contained the children's names and in some cases addresses. They were intercepted by a corrections officer.


According to The New York Times (Ex-Teacher Scolded for Having Students Send Christmas Cards to Inmate - NYTimes.com ), Melissa Dean escaped harsher punishment because she resigned in June.


Dean taught at P.S. 143 in Queens. Last December she told her class to write the cards to people who were lonely.


Instead, she sent the cards to a friend, John Coccarelli, serving time for illegal weapons possession. Prosecutors say he was also charged with possessing child pornography but it was not brought to trial because he pleaded guilty to a charge calling for a longer sentence.

It is NOT stupidity, it goes WAY beyond the. Remember the ONLY reason the dirt bag she had CHILDREN'S names and addresses sent too was NOT in jail for possessing CHILD PORN is he plead guilty to the weapons charges. There is NO excuse for putting a CHILD in that kind of danger.

I would be investigating further to see if sending info on kids to a creep that plays with child porn was a deliberate act on her part. That would not surprise me ON BIT!

Would not bother me to hang the creep as well.

Manny thumbs up to the corrections officers that intercepted the mail.
I would like to see this teacher should be stripped of her teaching degree, charged with child endangerment, and put in jail. I think Life without parrole is a good idea if you intentionaly put a kid in harms way. But, unfortunately it will never happen.
