Any truck stops in the "freight lanes" that have PnV for the "B" units? Always seems to be for the bigger trucks? Hate to hog a spot for my little van.

Hello,

I spoke to a PNV design rep on this subject a month or so ago. He said that they where aware of the need for this type service to small trucks and RVs. He said at most PNV locations it would be difficult to run the underground cables over to the car/bobtail parking lots, but that they are looking at some locations. They are also going to put internet lines in the truckstop so at least you can log-on and surf the net (& hopefully visit Expediters Online!) while in the truckstop.

On the upside - I spoke with owners of the Detroiter truckstop and they are planning to add this for B unit vans! They could not give us a date to the completion of this project.

The Detroiter is installing an expediter section with PNV, But it's just money! They have decided they are losing money by letting all those expediter vans just sitting on their lot. Most vans go down the street for gas that is 7 to 10 cents cheaper and eat somewhere else too! So for $5.00 or fill up you can park in the new lot. When it's done, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE PARK IN THE OLD SPOT, 2 HOUR PARKING ONLY! You can see with 30 to 40 vans parked at a given time, they are going to make big $$$$. That is if we let them get away with it and pay the money!

P.S. Did you try to find a PNV last winter with all the snow on the ground! Most were covered with snow or had wires hanging out or just not working at all. The ground units are not a good idea. They need some sort of wireless access.

Randy, its a system that allows a subscriber to have a connection to tv phone and internet service in their vehicle when parked at a truck stop which has this service. The physical connection is thru a unit mounted on the ground, in the parking area. They are usually painted yellow, and as was mentioned above, they are hard to find when there is more than a few inches of snow, and of course there are problems with the snow plow truck damaging them.

If you are interested in this service, brochures are usually to be found in most truck stops, but remember, like all new things, this is still having start-up problems. Jim Bunting..
