out of Texas

My wife and I are thinking of going into the trucking business. We were looking into a class 8 for coast-to-coast hauls when expediting caught our attention. We are located just outside Dallas Texas and would want to go out for 12 days and back in for 2 days. Is there enough freight in and out of Dallas, and is 12 days long enough out in a straight truck to make any money? Thanks for the info.

I don't believe that expediting would work for you as most teams are out for 3 to 4 weeks before heading home. Most of the very sucessful teams are out much longer and take there time off in the slow months. January, February, and July in the past were the times to take off. Lately in the past few years there hasn't been a slow time for teams. I feel you would be better off running your class 8 big truck for a carrier like Landstar were you can call your own shots and do what you want. Good Luck on what ever you decide.

I'm just outside Houston and as a solo there's no way to get in and out of Texas every 2 weeks. As a team you may get some longer runs that terminate in Laredo. A class 8 D unit is a great vehicle to run. It can do very well but not on a 12/2 schedule unless home is Romulus or Cleveland or somewhere else in the heart of expediting.

I agree. I have a team running that is based in Arlington, and they do get home at least every two weeks or more. But, it may be a quick stop off while on a run ect. They usually aren't in a position to take several days in a row unless they have a run that takes them straight to Dallas.
As Leo mentioned, alot of loads go through to Laredo.
