The North Carolina Department of Transportation reports multiple closures along highly trafficked I-95 in both directions: exit 73 (US-421) through exit 58 (NC-295) and exit 31 (NC-20) through exit 13 (I-74). I-40 West is also closed between exit 341 (NC-55) to exit 334 (NC-96) between Newton Grove and Benson.
NCDOT advises that these roads will be closed until further notice and recommends motorists "seek an alternate route and to follow the instructions of local law enforcement."

Matthew caused severe flooding in coastal parts of Virginia. "We are looking at very significant flooding. Almost every road in the city is impassable," Virginia Beach spokeswoman Erin Sutton told weather.com on Saturday.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation there are more than 100 reported road closures throughout the state. Many of them are impassable due to flooding, down power lines, down trees and other reasons related to the storm. See the full list here of road closures here.
