Need advice on overhaul

I would appreciate a few thoughts from those of you with some experience that might be helpful with the following:

My wife and I run team in a 2000 Freightliner Century. It has a Cat C-10 in it and we have been very faithful to maintain it carefully. It now has over 800,000 miles on it and continues to run well. Recent oil analysis was excellent.

We love our truck and probably will continue to run it. At what time do we need to bite the bullet and have the engine overhauled? What is a ballpark figure of what it will cost and do you have some places to recommend to do the work. I am thinking we will probably want to go to a Cat dealer. We defintely will want a warranty with the work.

Any thoughts you might have to help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D :D :D

I would start to consider a dyno to see what power level you are getting out of it. If it is (I think I may be wrong about this) at 70% or below it is time for an OH.

Outside of that, if the OA is right on with the age (no high anything) than I would keep rolling.

Dyno and your oil samples should tell you where you are at.
If you at some point do go the rebuild route, a CAT dealer would be the only consideration.
Basically because of the warranty, national coverage, and most charge by the specific job rather than by the hour.
The latter can make a huge difference in cost if it is a major repair.

If the oil analysis is good, oil pressure still good, and it's not using a bunch of oil I wouldn't worry about it. If the water pump hasn't been replaced you might do that for safetys sake. And I agree with Dave. Go to Cat if you decide to have it rebuilt.
