i have been getting oil samples done at speedco since we bought the truck. The last two have shown a high level of sodium
and also pottasium 57ppm and 33ppm repectively. The people who do the samples say the high #s could be due to the new rotella oil that just came out . We have used rotella since day one. Any body have any info on this. I am taking the truck to the shop mon and tell them it is losing power so they will check the egr valve as i only have 1400miles left on ext warrsnty.

With those numbers, a dealer should be able to tell you what they mean. If not, a lab that does oil sample tests should be able to. I know CAT has a toll free number you can call M-F for that information. Detroit/Mercedes likely has the same thing.

Do not go in to any panic with any initial oil analysis results. Sodium and potassium are earth elements that are commonly contained in oil, or fuel blowby in the oil. They are not partculate of any internal engine materials, which is good. Mudflap
