In Setting Health and Fitness Goals, Don't Set Goals Dead People Can Achieve

Many people phrase their health and fitness goals in terms of giving something up. If a dead person can achieve the same goal, think about a way to rephrase the goal in a more positive and uplifting way.

Examples:

Don't say "I will lose 20 lbs." Dead people do that easily. Say, "I will achieve my ideal body weight."

Don't say, "I will give up sweets." Dead people do that all the time. Say, "I will eat healthy snacks."

Don't say, "I will reduce my calorie intake by eating less." There, too, a dead person can do that better than you. Say, "I will maintain a healthy caloric intake and burn by eating smart and working out."

Notice the difference. When you set goals a dead person can achieve, it takes you to a dead end. When you set goals a live person can achieve, the outcome is more pleasant to envision and the motivation is more positive.
