lately i'm just angry. no freight, no miles, have to give my loads to teams. can't get home unless i deadhead a few hundred miles. always mad when i get home.
no one to talk too about it. wife gets tired of me venting on/too her.
the only bright side is truck will be paid off in a few months, and maybe then i can go find a job

I hear Ya. I think they have to many Trucks available, so wait times between loads is just too great. But they have a truck in about every City. Its like this has went from something you could make a living at, to something that only buys your fuel and eats......and Ive talked to drivers from some smaller companys and some of the rates that they are running for they wont be running long, 1 breakdown and they will be done. I dont understand how they figgure something is better than nothing when it only buys fuel and food for the day..

I think Termite you answered your own question. You are operating in a team oriented business so either get the wife driving, get a co-driver, book your own freight, or you may have to move to a different gig. Several on here have had to take on co-drivers to make it more profitable. Just a matter of "if you wanna".

well, lets see. today, i got to the shipper early, but had no pickup number. so i was 4th to get loaded. and late out of shipper. so i was late arriving to the wrong place for the cons. it turned out to be a cow field. even google said it was a cow field. so i call dispatch, who then calls customer service, who tries and tries to get hold of the shipper, and i run out of hours while doing the monkey chase the weasel game. not my 11 mind you, but my 14, cause they wont give solos a 500 mile run, if it is 500 loaded, but 500 in combination of deadhead, and loaded, well that's different. like 230 deadhead, and 260 loaded. no problem. im mad at this point, so ill probably get nasteygram from safety. i haven't had one of those in 2 years. sorry.
well i get directions from dizzy, only they don't tell me what gate, and the first sign i pass says gate 77. i call back. there looking. i give up, and go into the main gate. good choice. arrived at cons, notice all the do you have your twick card signs. Hm, i don't have one of those. Check in with security, she is expecting me... finaly a brake, but da guy who ordered it, well he is busy with family life or some crap, so he says rejected,,,reschedule. so now i'm down till whenever they decide they want it, i don't know at this time, and ill have to start my 14 hour clock when they decide they do. so tomorrow is killed as well.
they pulled me off another load for this " spotlight account " load.
shouldn't things like directions be johnny on the spot for spotlight accounts?????
and pickup numbers be ready and available without the phone call shuffle???
and what about communicating delays and such with the customer???
I know this seemed like just a whine post, but i think we are neglecting some of our stuff on the office side of things. and that makes our stuff on the truck side of things, a tad bit harder.

Yeah, it seems like everywhere we go there is always 5-8 trucks already there and that's find and dandy when you go to a area that gets out 11 a day but when you get out to places like El Paso, TX and there are 6 people there on a two a day board it just does not work out..... and it seems to me that lately the Dispatchers are starting to slack off or just come out and lie when it comes to some of these loads... but then again what do you do it's just part of the business I guess... Just follow your best Instinct and move on...

Main thing that has been annoying me lately is when some detail changes on the load... like the pickup/delivery time.... they wait till you are going to barley make it there then they let you know... they should send it over as soon as the changes are made... but like I said what do you do...

Are you guys running teams or solo? Do you have your Haz mat. Can your Truck haul over 13,000 lbs? Do you have a lift gate? Do you have a Pallet Jack in your truck? Can you go to Canada? How big is your box? Are you DOD cleared drivers? So many things can cause your truck to get passed over on a load if you don't have these things.

no bruno, i don't have most of the stuff you just mentioned. im a lowly solo tractor trailer operator. who is simply pulling a van. every coe driver i have attempted to get put in my truck, is unqualified. (dump trucks don't count), lac of experience, stuff like that. and since a coe driver that lives 1200 miles away from me would make home time a *****, i have remained solo.

i do want to know how to get on a different team, cause i feel that mine is incompetent, but other than that i am just venting a bit. i run my little 1200 miles a week, though i could do more, they wont let me.

I gave up asking when the times get changed because you are right 99 out of 100 times they will never tell you what the new time is. When this happens its their fault if the load is late since they never gave you the info that you need to do your job.

I have refused to get out of the main service area and have run several loads a week. I won't take a load to GA without a load out at this point 9 out of 10 loads from Ga are going to NY. Well for a solo tr that is a zero profit load so i just stay out of those places

in the year that i have had my TWIC i have had 1 load offer that i needed it
...in the time since they have required them to get into the port, I have needed one about 5 times for Panther loads and 3 time for backhauls...and I still dont have one..no need for one when you can use a escort to get you in on Panthers dime.

Sorry to hear about your travails. I must be working for a different company. I have had the best 4 months ever since I started with Panther back in March of 2005. They have been running me ragged. Have been bumping against my 70 hour clock for the last two weeks. Just finished a 730 mile run. Now prebooked on a 1707 mile run. And I am just a solo tractor driver like yourself.

Sure, stuff has happened. Had 4 back to back dry runs in February or March - can't remember. Last week did a spotlight load. 3 out of the four necessary tidbits of information were wrong - pickup location, shipper location, and delivery appointment. We worked through the problems and got them all taken care of without too much muss or fuss.

A lot of these information problems probably don't originate with Panther but the 3rd party companies that originate the load orders. The bad information just gets passed on to Panther and Panther has to clean up the mess when we find out about the discrepancies. I am sure you get as much information as you can before you start towards a pickup. I always get a pickup number before I leave for the shipper, and I always put the pickup address in both of my gps systems. If they don't come up with directions, then it's a pretty clear indication that the pickup address is either misspelled or just plain wrong.

Over time I have come to trust Panther's ability to get me enough business to meet my revenue needs. I tend to look not at what happened this week but how it evens out over a month's time. If I hit my revenue target for the month, then it doesn't matter how I got there, it just matters that I got there. Sometimes that requires 16 short loads, sometimes 12 short and medium length loads. I have even hit my target with 6 loads one month. They just happened to be really long loads that paid really well. In that light, I have quit prejudging how to achieve my monthly revenue target. I might prefer six lengthy loads, but if 16 250 mile loads end up with the same revenue then that money pays the bills just as well.

Finally, so far the boys and girls in dispatch have been able to keep the loads coming. Scuba mentioned staying in Panther's main cone of influence. For the most part, I have also done that. But my home is just north of Atlanta, so I get home for 3-5 days a month and haven't had the least problem getting a load out of Atlanta. This month I stayed in the south for several weeks and then headed back up toward Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. My only steadfast rule is: stay out of the northeast. Best of luck to you.
