hot shot questions

I want to drive hot shot delivery in Texas (eventually
48 states) and I have a million questions. I'm looking at
buying a new Ford F 550 & a 48' flatbed trailer. I'm broke
& recently divorced, but have good credit. I've been a carpenter
my whole life, but it is time for a change. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know you are in a good area for hotshot, but from the few guys I talked in the biz, they say the rates for hotshot went south...with JB Hunt.

Yeah, I gotta agree with Xpediter, the rates just ain't there any more .....You may know this, the term "Hotshot" originated in the oil fields of west Texas and Oklahoma many years ago. Fuel was cheap, and rates were good.. Now, no oilfields, no rates... Someone out there might differ with us, but I doubt it.. For the same money, you can go the expedite route with a good late model D unit and maybe make it.. What part of the country are you in??? "T"..

I'm in Ft. Worth,TX. Since posting that first message
a few hours ago, I ordered that F550. I'm sure I can make
it in this business, but I don't want to re-invent the wheel.
The oil bidness here in TX. is picking up a little, but I was
told by one guy to steer clear. Another friend of mine works
for Cardinal Transport...he says they are great & he does well with them. Hey "T"...tell me more. I'm new to this...everything I know came from this site. Hay is all I've hauled(40'gneck). Thanks
