Former Beatles member and avid gardener George Harrison spent his last years living in Los Angeles, and died in 2001. In 2004 a tree was planted in his memory in Griffith park near the observatory. At the base of the tree a plaque was laid in stone. The plaque reads "In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener." It also quotes the man himself with "For the forests to be green, each tree must be green."

Over the years it has grown more than 10 feet. But, the tree grows no more. It's dead, It will have to be replaced.

What killed this Beatles' memorial tree, you might ask?

An infestation of bark beetles and ladybug beetles.
