Express vs Carrier Group

For an Express BCO, when looking at the loadboard, we know the weight of the load and our limitations as straight truck drivers, but dimensions can be the deciding factor. Will it fit in the space we have available?
Carrier Group agents, not Express, generally post trailer loads. And they don't consider straight trucks when posting the loads. But, when calling a Carrier Group agent about a load, many agents will try to make it work for you, others will just say "We need a trailer".
If you ask about dimensions first and if you think you have the space, you have a better chance of getting the load. If you just ask" Will it fit on a straight truck?" many times the answer will be "No."
Sometimes it is all in how you ask the questions.
I hope this will help some other straight trucks get some of those trailer loads.

Great Points Roamin as we have been asking if the load will fit on a straight truck and we have had mixed results.

Another thing we look at is the line pay and make the deduction for what our percentage of the load will be before we make the call. We are getting rather quick at this.

One more thing about Carrier Group loads, if they seem hesitant about putting the load on a straight truck, you can remind them( some don't realize or don't know) that they make a larger commission for Express vs a TT. Sometimes that can give them the incentive to make it work for you.
Most agents that I have dealt with have been very pleasant to deal with but every now and then...

More and more agents are becoming Express agents. Most new ones have no idea what a SuperB is or a Sprinter. Usually a couple of pics and a 5 or 10 minute phone call resolves that.
