Does this sound fishy to anyone besides me?

I was just browsing thru the classifieds today and saw an ad from a fleet owner. They were wanting fleet drivers to put money into a maintence escrow for the owners truck. That seems fishy to me. Is this the new trend? If so I guess I missed something.

Having a escrow account makes sense, but not for maintenance.
The maintenance is the fleet owners responsibility unless possibly it is a lease/purchase deal of some sort.

I was working on a Lease/Purchase for a new Sprinter and they ( Leasing Company ) wanted a extra fee every month for the same reason . It does sound like a good idea because all PM's and most maintinance is covered through the intire Lease and what I did not use went to finale Purchase of the Sprinter !
It is a good deal for TT's or Straight Trucks but after thinking it over very carefully.. With both monthly payments combined , cannot justify that on a Sprinter...I would go Bankroupt !

When we lease purchased our first truck we had a .05 a mile escrow till the balance reached $5000. I also have talked to fleet owners that do this when they have no pro's held back (shorter pay cycles).....1000$ escrow to ensure trucks are returned etc....
