Construction Zone Vigilante

In the name of safety, I think its time to take back the construction zones along our highways from those whom choose to ignore the law by speeding and driving carelessly through them. Not only are they endangering the workers, they also are putting themselves and those driving around them at risk.

With more and more budget cuts by both state and local law enforcement agencies, its becoming harder to patrol these work areas and keep them safe. So I call upon you, the "American Trucker" to come to their aid. We as professional drivers can take control and slow these lunatics down.

Its quite simple:
Unless otherwise specified, drive in the left lane of a two lane construction zone and do EXACTLY the posted speed limit. As long as you are doing the speed limit, are you truely impeding traffic? If the person next to you in the right lane is also doing EXACTLY the posted speed limit, then the two of you have taken control of the situation and all are safe. What ever you do, don't let the lunatic speeder thats up your butt intimidate you into moving over to let them pass. You are helping to keep them from breaking the law. They should be thanking you for the ticket they could have gotten, but did'nt.

Please remember:
Only use your cruise control in the construction zone when it is safe to do so. Also, be a courtious driver and move quickly to the right to allow emergency vehicles and funeral processions to safely pass.

United we can take back our construction zones and make them a safer place for all! ;)

I would do the safe thing "keep right pass left" unless other wise posted i.e. Trucks use left lane next xx miles. This is a law in some states and it should be in all states. Getting out there in the left lane is only gonna cause more problems because the unit in the right lane may slow down then that lil 4 wheeler will zip between you 2 hugging your dot and the other trucks front bumper. Seen it a thousand times. Also i do not like to be paralleled, i like to always have a out. If someone attempts to parallel me i will back out of it and if they persist i will take the next exit "if safe to do so" and get back on a couple minutes later. Don't get me wrong i am all for work zone safety, i do my part by running the limit "if safe to do so" and staying in the right lane.

Depending on the looks of the WZ, I slowdown to the limit or up to 5-8 mph over...all depending tho...I often get flipped the bird...

What you propose here would actually do more harm than good. Blocking traffic will just enrage the speed demons and thats not a good thing. I'm with OVM 5-8 miles over and I've never been bothered. If I start getting tickets then i will have to change that thinking. To your line of thinking streaking why not just set your cruise at the speed limit and drive in the left lane all of the time. You can be the "Keeper of the speed". I've heard this before and maybe you could take this to heart, "Hey driver, you got a mighty big truck there, maybe you should concentrate on driving it, instead of woorying about how I am driving mine".
Not trying to yank your chain but you seem obsessed with controlling others driving.

In the locked thread you mentioned getting flipped off in a work zone. We're you practicing this keeping of the speed on that day? If so feel grateful the guy just flipped you a finger and didn't really attack you.
Road Rage is just a serious as construction speeding. I wouldn't think that causing one to eliminate the other would be a smart thing to do. I just try and drive with traffic and be courteous, I would rather the speed demons be out in front anyhow.

I would not call it an "obession", if a person is suggesting that the collective "we", follow the law. And Streak only suggested using the left lane when required to, not as a traffic control measure.

freight you are mistaken he is calling for us to get in the left lane and keep the speed unless we are forbidden from the left lane. It is not a smart thing to do. probably why he got flipped off. If you want to be an enforcement agent go to the police academy.

He is assuming also that the vehicles in the right lane would run his speed. The fact is more than likely the right lane traffic would then be passing him on the right, (his blind side) much more dangerous. We all learned in driving school stay right except to pass. Keepers of the speed in the left lane , I believe are more dangerous than the speeders. The speeders are going to speed, making them zig zag around you is just dumb, sorry but it is.

If you notice,in a construction zone, when it says trucks use left lane,it' usually cause the right lane is actually the shoulder of the road, and isn't meant for heavy vehicles to drive on.
Myself,I drive usually 5 under posted speed in construction zones.Let one of those workers step out in front of you at 45 mph,and see how dead he will be.
I like dropping a dime on speeders in construction zones.4 wheeler, get license plate number, kind of car, truck, use his truck number, name of company. On commercial vehicle. Its easy to do.Either way, dial 911 that will take care of it.
This also goes for drivers sending text messages,or putting on lipstick.I did see a lady driving a car one day, actually change her clothes ,from a dress to blue jeans.I didn't call in on her.

I drive the speed limit in the constuction zone as well. I mean, for the majority, they really arent that long to begin with, and dont really add that much time to a run anyway.Figure out the math. And if you being in a hurry results in you killing a construction worker, go and explain to his or her family how you driving like a dickhead, in a hurry, is more important than the lost life in the casket in front of you.
