We have been using a lift gate for many years and we chose the lift gate we have after seeing someone use a decrepit liftgate...

When we bought our first truck in 2005 it did not have a lift gate but within the year we added one and have had the same brand of lift gate on all of our trucks.

The flashing led lights on the lift gate is a great idea!!!!!! Maybe next time have lights mounted at the end of the gate for those dark nights at a airport runway.
