Churchill quote....

Hi guys,

I just wanted to respond to T-Hawk by saying, that his quote was grossly misused. You were the one that seemed unhappy about my opinion not the other way around. Since your so good at repeating what other people say, why don't you come and show me the error of my ways. My guess is it will just be more parrot speak from your beloved right-wing radio! If I'm right, which I'm sure I am, this should be a quick and effortless debate.

ps. Not interested in name calling or angry trade. Just a good ol' fashion fair and honest debate. Although, your welcome to call me a "lib". I actually take it as a tremendous compliment. After all liberal is derived from the word LIBERTY.

Here is my problem with Dems........I greatly enjoy listening to anybody who has a point of view that is supported by fact. What really is a terrible thing is when you listen to somebody try to make a point about the President being a sell out and an idiot, blah blah blah, and can not support there reasoning other than "because he is!" I agree with about half of what our President has done. I am a conservative Republican, and he is not. I voted for him because I thought he would be advancing a conservative agenda; he does not. He goes out of his way to bow down and play nice with some of the most notriously destructive Senators and all he gets in return is a knife in the back.
And as a result, the people who voted for him get a knife in the back.

The other thing I can not stand is the hypocracy related to things that Democrats and Republicans say in public. For instance, Charlie Rangle (sorry if that is spelled wrong) just spouted off the other night about Southern Red Necks and how Clinton was indeed a Red Neck. A Democrat can say that. If it was a Republican, there would be an investigation right this moment going on, involving possible racism and prejudice in the Republican ranks.

Why did I vote for Bush? Because I can not stand the fact that I have a full time job, my wife has a full time job, we live in a trailer, and we still can not afford to put money away for our future. If the average American had to file quarterly taxes like most of us do, there would be a revolt over night, and a change in the system would be demanded. I dont know about anybody else, but 60% of my income going to the Government seems to be a little excessive. This leads me to another point. There is no way any intelligent person can look at the current state of Social Securtiy and say that there is no problem with it. The proof is in the facts, and the facts are that eventually, it is going to cost so much to pay retirees, that the average American is just going to say "forget this!" Why work if you are taxed to the point of bankruptcy. The President is demanding reform, and how dare he actually suggest that a working American be able to invest a small percentage on their own, in the hopes of doing better than a 1% return, which is currently what one would see.

Its all about big Government. I dont want it and some do. Unfortunately, there are so many idiotic knuckleheads, that dont vote, have no clue, and would have it no other way, that we are getting exactly what they deserve.

The Democrats, at least a large percentage of them, are bankrupt in the arena of ideas. They have nothing to offer in the way of solutions, only attack others and say "their idea will not work!"

The modern day Democrat appears to be so radical, that it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Look at Ted Kennedy. Lets not even talk about how he should be in prison right now for leaving a woman to drown, so as he would not tarnish his own "reputation" so many years ago, but the man has no solution, no ideas, just attacks. He is such a terrible presence in the Democratic party that I do not understand how he keeps getting re-elected, but his constituents do, and they get exactly what they deserve.

Ill just end this rant by saying that I have always voted on issues, and not parties. If John Kerry actually had some great ideas on how to get out of the conflict that we are in, in the middle east, I would have considered him for my vote. Unfortunately, all he did when asked a tough question was to say to check his website, its all laid out there. That left a whole lot of us just shaking our heads.

Bush was not the best person I could have found for President, but when I reach deep down inside and ask if I could trust a modern day Democrat with keeping me and my family safe, I have to say, Hell No!
I could spend another 2 pages just commenting on that, but Im going to let it go.

I anxiously await to hear other peoples view points. Nothing pleases me more than to engage in good "verbal" sparring, because it all comes down to one thing, the facts, and they are usually irrefutable.

Great post Wooobergoober,i espechially agree with you on that S.O.B
named Kennedy,if it had been you or me we would still be in jail,he is the worst of the bunch, but not let's stop there, how about our distingushed senator from Michigan named Carl Levin, who has done nothing but hold up senate confirmations for his own agenda. And our great governor from Michigan Jennifer Granholm, who is not even a natural born citizen, but an immigrant from Canada and was rightfully elected by the majority of the LIBERAL democrats here in Michigan who outnumber us.And has done NOTHING BUT RAISE TAXES SINCE SHE GOT IN!!!

LDB had a great idea when he suggested this conferance.I fail to see how this thread belongs here.

Well, I guess that if there were a Political Thoughts forum, it would certainly belong there. Move the thread to wherever it belongs best; nothing more than people sharing views and ideas.

I almost forgot about the esteemed Carl Levin. One of the forerunners in the obstructionist effort to block some phenomenal people from the chance of being confirmed to the Supreme Court. How would you like to work all your life, moving up the ranks, studying, teaching, judging, the whole time, making decisions in court based on what the framers put forth in our Constitution; ( not as a living document) only to find out your entire life goal rests in the hands of a bunch of angry Senators, who are in the minority, and will not have any blasphemous conservative views and idealisms being practiced in "their" courts. It is all just a shame. I am more angry with the Republicans- they have the power (51 votes) to change the rule in the Senate regarding the Fillibuster, and giving these people the respect of an up or down vote, but because some do not want to be seen as racist or prejudicial in voting against minority applicants, they simply do not vote at all.

As always, just my thoughts and opinions, but with facts to back them up.

Ok, so I guess you think this country would be better run if all offices were run by one party. I don't believe that falls in the realm of a democracy. The filibuster is the only voice a minority party has. Without it, when either side is the minority it leaves this country at a huge risk. Are you nuts? Do you realize how fascist that statement is? What happens when the dems take back the majority in congress, and they will. Do really want your own party giving up the right to filibuster.

See this is exactly what I mean. You guys just repeat what you hear. Use you head. Be people not sheeple. Learn how your government works. Without opposing parties in the house, senate, and congress we are no longer a democracy. That is why our forefathers set up the government they way they did. To keep all parties honest, but mostly so the people would be represented. Stop listening to those quacks on the radio and remember your education. Find reliable sources. If nothing else get opposing opinions and please sort it out with an open mind. Know your facts!

My friend,

That is exactly why you and your party will not be in power for a long long time. I do not repeat what I hear. I read newspapers, web logs, radio shows (both right and left) and instead of being somebody who makes an informed decision based on propenderance of evidence, I am merely accused of regurgatating something somebody else said. It is so hard to believe that there are Americans who can think on their own and take care of themselves without the constant oversight of the government, isnt it?

Where am I supposed to get my information from? I dont have the resources to go out and cover news stories, speeches, sessions, etc. I rely on what is provided by the media. All the media.

I do not go out and repeat what is said, but hey, since I am accused of it, whatever.

No, I do not think that it is good to have just one party governing everything, but unfortunately, you have to choose the lesser of two evils, and in this instance, I believe we are much better off. But hey, what do I know, I am just " repeating what Limbaugh or Hannity says" right?

I guess that's right. I do find it interesting that instead of replying to the filibuster comment, you decided to rant and rave regarding the repeating what you hear comment. Especially interesting since, I heard the same rederick on one of the right wing-radio stations two days ago. So, yep you are right. Business as usual. But don't be mad. Of course, if I were paying "60% of my income" to the government, I would probably be a little confused and upset too. Funny though you're most likely the only person in the country that pays that much in taxes. Maybe Bush just doesn't like you. Nah, it's probably some democrat conspiracy or something.

Looks like this won't be a fair and level headed debate session after all. So, I guess I'm done.

But before I go let me leave you with my quote from Churchill:

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened."

Sorry I couldn't resist, but you did it again:

Blethen blethers on about the need for diversity of opinions in the media. Of course, his own paper could provide a lot more of that, but doesn't. The "propenderance" of news and opinion is undeniably liberal. It would be revealing to see how the Times' writers and executives actually vote. (Raise your hands if you believe they don't vote Democrat at a much higher rate than their readers). Their propenderance of campaign contributions to Democratic candidates should provide some clue to the in-house "diversity".

As Malkin points out, if you want some ideological diversity with your news, don't expect to find it in a diet of the Times and the P-I alone. Listen to KVI, KTTH and KOL. And bookmark Sound Politics and read it daily.

Hmmm propenderance what a curious word...I'm just saying.

Oh my god, you are right.......Cheese and rice! Well, argument over, you win! I hit the e instead of the o; shows what an idiot I am! Oh well, sometimes you have time to hit the spell checker, sometimes not. You must just chew up us "rightys" and spit us out all day long. I bow to your genuis and intellect.

Just out of curiosity, is the "Poopy Day" thing, is that some sort of hidden greeting to (s)cat lovers out there? Just kidding. Have a great night, and I will keep listening and repeating what the talk shows say, and adopt it all as my own opinion.

WARNING TO ALL SMOKERS IN THE GREAT STATE OF MICHIGAN:
It has just come to my attention that our esteemed IMMIGRANT governor
Jennifer (IT IS MY MONEY NOT YOURS)Granholm and her liberal cronies have signed into law and are now pursuing with a vengenance anybody who purchased cigarettes online and did not pay taxes on them.It is bad enough that she no sooner got into office then she stuck us with a 75 cent increase tax on every pack we buy, making us the second highest in the nation for a pack of smokes now.I just found out about this yesterday when a friend of mine got a letter stating he owes over 2,000 bucks in back taxes for his smokes and they are giving him 1 month to pay it,or they will prosecute. So a WARNING to anyone from Michigan who purchased cigarettes online, you can expect a letter from Granholm wanting the LAST DROP OF YOUR BLOOD.

Hello Combatants. This is what I love about being in America. We can argue, fuss, cuss and fight over religion, politics, and brand of truck, but as civilized people that is all we normally do to each other. Someone made a comment about a one party system. Remember, Nazi Germany and Communist China had a one party system.

Just remember, Democrat, Republican, Independent, or whatever party you are, we as middle income Americans will continue to foot the major portion of the government bills because there are more of us.

You misunderstood my intentions Poopookitty. I was making an attempt at being humorous. I'm not a politician, and have no inclination to turn anyone to the "light side of the force"(or is it the RIGHT side?). :7
And as far as my quote, take a good look at the lefties and their politicians. That quote was right up their alley.

I am just happy the same ol media doesn't have quite the pull it has had for so long. And, therefore, the bitterness of the lefty career politicians doesn't totally corrode our country.

On a side note... anyone listen to Mike Church on Sirius? He's one cool Duke of Dude! :D
