Broken Spring

My wife and I were sitting at a truck stop in El Paso (not a great spot for expediters) when we heard a loud SNAP and our 2000 Century Class dropped a bit to the driver's side. I really thought a tire had blown.. but all the tires were up. On closer observation I discovered that one of the leaves in the driver's side front spring had just snapped WHILE WE WERE SITTING THERE. I did not really want to go to Freightliner as I was sure it would take several hours to get it looked at and then they probably would have to order the part. I looked in the yellow pages and found a place called "Stanley Spring and Suspension" which was a few miles up the interstate. We limped on up there. The owner took a look, had the spring in stock, took two men off another job they were doing and had us out in ONE HOUR. Obviously, I was amazed at our good fortune of getting the repair done so quickly. I also shudder to think what might have happened if the spring had snapped while moving down the highway at 70 mph. .... Hats off to Stanley Spring! :D :D :) :) :)

I would think it would be worthwhile to talk to Freightliner about the spring. There might be a recall or a bulletin out about it. I don't know who you run forbut we have always done well out of El Paso.
