APU with or without

What are the advantages or disadvantages between an APU that has a generator and one that does not? Besides not being able to hook it up and run my house when ice storms hit.

Can you clarify the terms? The words "APU" (auxiliary power unit) and "generator" are often used interchangeably.

I need some input from the "experts" on this. It is my belief that an APU WITH a generator is better than one without. Am I correct? I am needing some help.

In my case, the plug for my block heater uses the generator, everything else runs off the inverter. That's about all I can tell you about that.

Without a generator I assume the block heater would be running off of the inverter then? It would seem to me, I don't know for sure, that an alternator only system would put more strain on the inverter and batteries than one with a generator.

As my now broken system is set up when the generator runs my 120 stuff runs off of that. When I shut the APU down the inverter/battery system kicks in.
