A Few Songs Of The South.

The Band is hardly Southern Americana. The Last Waltz is great though.

Levon Helm is from Arkansas and this song, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, is a tribute song to the Old South and the Confederacy's loss. You can't find much of anything more Southern Americana than this song.

I was commenting on The Band but fair enough.

Levon Helm is from Arkansas ...
Indeed he was - born and grew up there ...

Of course, he later lived in Toronto, ON ... and eventually settled in Woodstock, NY, where he resided until his death ...

BTW - it's appears that the song "The Night They Drive Old Dixie Down" was actually written by Robbie Robertson - a Canadian - with some help/assistance from Levon Helm:

Of course, Canada is actually part of "America" ... so it still qualifies as "Americana" ... irrespective of the northern (and "foreign") authorship ...
