I am new to expediting, i am driving a cargo van, my first qeustion is:
why does my broker require me to get a dot inspection, i am out of michigan, and what happens if i dont get the sticker?

my second question is what is bobtail insurance? my broker requires this also, and what does it cover? does my broker cover collision or do i have to get extra insurace for myself?

The DOT sticker tells the feds that your truck is servicable and up to their specs. If you don't have it, and get pulled over, you lose money.

Bobtail insurance covers your vehicle any time you don't have freight on board. Yes, you hafta have that too.

As far as your broker goes, he is responsible for cargo insurance only. You may have to pay some portion, but unless you have your own authority, your carrier has to provide it.
