It's July - Is everyone on vacation or something?

Here it is July 9th, and no one has made a July thread until now. What's going on?

    Colonel's Secret Recipe

Had to share this with you guys. Chicago Tribune has printed what they say is the secret recipe, which came by way of the Colonel's nephew. Their taste testers say it tastes the same as the bucket. http://www.chicagotribune.com/dining...818-story.html

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

How can you explain a 30/70 split for drivers, if you're paying fuel, and a 55/45 if the driver is? Additionally, how can you explain a 30/70 split in a t/t, when straight truck drivers traditionally get a 40/60 split? Let us do the math, shall we? $1.20 x 40% = .48/mi, which is what the avg...

    Moving up...

Usually, I hear of people moving from bigger vehicles to smaller ones, out of necessity or convenience. However, I know of three people who have moved from vans to straights, and none who have moved from straights to semi. While I have moved to straights, a number of years ago, after dabbling...

    Mileage for a solo

How many miles does a solo straight truck and t/t get in expediting per year? I don't need someone to dig out their sheets... just a rough estimate. I was thinking around 80k.

    Insight on tractor mileage

For those of you who own, or have owned T/Ts, what mileage tractor do you consider the best bang for the buck? IOW, what range mileage do you look at, considering price, life left on the components, cost and time to repair, warranty, etc? Where is that peak?

    Cargo Insurance

Does anyone here have cargo insurance deducted on their settlement? I've NEVER paid for cargo insurance, except when I ran my own company.

    What a 1st day!

I'm supposed to be starting with Turri today, and I woke up at 3am with back spasms. I can hardly breathe at times. I guess that'll teach me to drive 500 miles in our minivan. :p

    Liftgate trucks and small carriers

I'm looking at a truck with a liftgate. This truck also has a 28' box. What smaller companies do you know of that utilize liftgates well, AND know how to load that size box for t/t rate?

    Looking for a new home.

After a less-than-stellar run with my last carrier, I'm looking for a new venture. Does anyone know of a small, FAST approved carrier around Detroit that will take an older truck? Not looking for a bottom-feeder. Just a decent company that pays decently and on time, stresses communication, and...

    Canada Woodstock TA

Kudos to the Woodstock TA who STILL has American and Canadian money equal. Their food is well priced for Canada, with good portions, unlike the 5th Wheel in MILTON. ;) Always plenty of parking for when I pull in at 0-dark:30.

    Canada POD on Canadian Manifest

Has anyone ever had the consignee sign the manifest in lieu of a crappy BOL? Did your company have a problem with it?

Canada IFTA question and fuel at the bridge

Is buying fuel on the US side of the Ambassador Bridge considered to be Michigan fuel for tax purposes? I remember a couple of years ago, Michigan shut their pumps down over this issue. Apparently, it was resolved. Also, those who are predominately driving in Canada from Michigan, how do you...

    Truck crapped the bed yesterday

Looks like it blew a head gasket. Until I can finance another truck, I'll be driving for someone. Still have to find someone to salvage it. Not to mention I have one more payment to go. I dare not say, "What else can go wrong?" But it seems like I've seen it all.

Who takes an instrument on the road?

I'm thinking of getting a silent electric viola, and take it with me to practice. I'd like to hear from others who take a guitar, or other instrument with them; and whether they have reactions from co-drivers or other passersby. Also, how do you enjoy playing in the truck? Do you think it's...

Is your company really smart? Are you?

Yet another thread about rates; both on yours, and the industry's as a whole. Who is helping who by keeping them low? Rates ARE going up; but companies are stuck in the same ol' mentality that their trucks won't get loaded unless they lowball. Thus, YOUR rates don't go up! My lease company is...

    Time for the deals!

Here's a truck I saw on ebay - 2004 Columbia straight, dual axel, automatic, Rig Master, and 442k miles. I have no doubt that it would've gotten $40k last year. It went for $17,400!!! I'm sure there'll be more to come...
