hour's of service [14 hour rules]

If it's 25 minutes away I wouldn't leave until 6:30 since that would have me there by 7. That way it will limit the time lost from your 14 hour clock but will make sure that you arrive with plenty of time incase there is an issue. You only have 3 hours extra before you start getting into your...

Advice for a 22 year old starting with van?

My advice would be to stay with a TT. At 6 months in you are still at a point where it's very frustrating. You are at a point in life where you should be pursuing money to build yourself up and then worry about taking the easy gig later. This is coming from a TT driver so I'm not trying to keep...

I have a CDL A permit, looking for a driver to help train me, will pay

To get a job with any reasonable company you will need to go to a school. Most if not all legit companies won't hire you with training from some guy off of the street because it is a massive liability.

    Awesome Expediting??

As it was pointed out you would really need to change to a cargo van for the long distance runs. If the open road is calling your name then you may want to test the industry out. Just make sure that you research more so that you can be somewhat prepared.

    Awesome Expediting??

None. Try searching for courier work in LA. It should be pretty decent there since you are in a major metropolitan area.

Questions from a Newbie Cargo Van O/O

Did your boss do this very recently? Or was it years ago when rates were way up, gas prices were lower, and maintenance was cheaper?

    What do I bring?

I like to have 2 pairs of work gloves. One is a cheap pair from Harbor Freight used for fueling and the other a good quality pair that doubles as work/mechanics gloves.

oh no 1st time to New York City!!

You will be fine either way but I would go in on I78. The roads can knock a kidney loose in the NYC area so watch for potholes.

What can I expect as a new driver?

You asked for a ballpark figure on how much you could earn as a new driver and said that you knew there are variables but that's why we all have averages. I fully understand what you are looking for and asking. There is no group collecting data that I have seen that has an answer to your...
