Yes, likely a bad ground. Either the chassis module or bad frame ground usually at the back lights. Pretty common actually. May require some ohms testing as that is more predominate than voltage testing. Modules are very sensitive to shorts and ground problems.

There is a service bulletin on Freightliner trucks that have the dd13 or dd15. It is recommending removal of the coolant filter as they are clogging up. I believe it is all years but late model for sure. Check with your dealer for confirmation. You have been warned. ;)

You can get some high mileage 8 to 900k out of them. The disadvantage here is the buyer wouldn't know the previous service and driving habits of previous owners.

Tough call with that setup. Might be able to get a couple of years out of it, but in the end, you will likely lose money. One plus you do have is doing as much work as you can yourself. Major savings if you can keep that going. I do like your ambition though. Good luck.

Probably 5k. Would still recommend a pump because the bearings in the pump likely failed and shot metal through the fuel rail taking out all the injectors. Injectors typically wouldn't need replaced at 300 unless something upstream took them out.

I guess it depends if it needs injectors? May need a heui pump as well. Add that and injectors, that is roughly 8k retail at a Cat dealer. May or may not be a good deal depending on the rest of it. That c7 will go way beyond 300k if it was services properly. Also keep in mind, Cat does not do...

White smoke is typically water/antifreeze. EGR is a possibility. Blue/grey smoke is fuel related. Possible injector. Black is oil or could be a bad injector. Send a note to Greasyshirt. He is the resident mechanic on Hinos.

Using your provided example, the Cascadia would get the nod. If they have the same drive train, not a lot of difference other than weight. M2 is lighter so a little better on payload and most Cascadias need a tag to haul over 5k with a 96inch sleeper. Then cost verses return really comes in to play.

Confirm that it is actually oil and not fuel. Internal gasket or head gasket failure would be my guess if actually oil. Can also pull the dipstick and see if that is a milky color as well. If it smells like fuel, then likely a injector cup leak or crack which is common on Cats. Either way, you...

I would think synthetic or a blend would be better than any kind of additive. Since they have reformulated most oils, don't really see a need for additives unless the manufacture is calling for them.

If you are using it in interstate commerce, it would be tax exempt. If you purchased it from a dealer, they would have the forms. Requirements will vary by state. Some will want your operating authority information or if leased to a carrier, a copy of the lease from the carrier.

Driving records, length of policy, credit rating, and the volume of trucks will drive what you pay. Assuming all other items are equal.
