This Could be Big; Amazon "Free" Freight Brokerage

True, but there was a segment on Fox Business yesterday making it sound like they're bringing out a 2.0 version. Evidently Amazon is getting more aggressive in the last mile delivery business.

Been off the screen for a while, but it's always sad to hear the expedite community has lost a good member. Deepest sympathies to you and your family, and best wishes as you all go forward in life.

    Back on the road??

In OH you should have all kinds of options - lots of business and carriers. You also might check out contractors that have routes hauling mail in straight trucks. With a little research you should find something that would be a fit, but also make sure to do your due diligence on the...

    Back on the road??

If you live near a large airport that handles a lot of air freight, you might be able to find a local carrier that does courier work within a 100 mile radius. For instance, in Nashville DMW has drivers that stay in the middle TN area with very few overnights and still get a fair amount of miles.

Are Any Expedited Carriers Concerned with keeping on Own/Op with current low rates?

Re: Are Any Expedited Carriers Concerned with keeping on Own/Op with current low rate When expedite companies start providing company trucks and employee drivers is when we'll start having forced dispatch. If you're an employee you'll go where the dispatcher tells you to go or you no longer...

    Before good GPS

Had a good atlas, when I got closer, asked the locals at convenience store/gas station and had the phone number of the consignee; the direct number into the shipping/receiving dept, not the main switchboard. In this day and age you can't afford NOT to have a good GPS, no matter what size unit...

    Abandoned

Every carrier I've ever worked for had an exception clause in their service agreements for uncontrollable circumstances like acts of God, mechanical breakdowns, driver illnesses that would make it unsafe to operate the vehicle, etc. that might prevent timely delivery of freight. The customer...

    Back soliciting

One would think that Menlo would have some language in their contracts addressing this issue if they allow their loads to be brokered. Personally, I haven't seen a Menlo contract recently but it could easily be seen where nearly every carrier out there could be in violation of somebody else's...

    Back soliciting

Taking this hypothetical case as an example: Panther takes Menlo shipment from XYZ Co. and offers it to Pilgrim Expedite - a small 15-truck local carrier that's doing pretty well for itself. A year later Pilgrim Exp has acquired another carrier and is now in position for Menlo approval, and...

    Back soliciting

IMHO the short answer is no. 3PLs like Menlo are good sources of freight for small, growing carriers and you shouldn't limit yourself by staying away from them just because there might be some carrier overlap with one of their many clients. Granted, this is a convoluted situation but it results...

    TST Expediting

If you don't mind crossing the border, they're fine. You won't get too many domestic US moves working with them however - they like to go in and out of Canada, primarily from the midwestern states.
