What GPS Device Would You Recomend Today?

Thank you all for your replies. I was able to repair our nuvi by doing a software update. Nice to see a company that provides support for discontinued products. With our beloved "Gertrude" now brought back to life, we will keep using this device. It's nice to see the Garmin truck GPS getting...

What GPS Device Would You Recomend Today?

Does anyone know if the power cord for the nuvi 750 will work on the DEZL? We try to keep a neat cab and route cords out of sight. Our nuvi mounts on the suction cup connector which sits on a plastic disk on the top of the dash. The power cord is routed from the suction cup connector down...

What GPS Device Would You Recomend Today?

I should add that the device does not need to be truck-specific. The Garmin nUvi 750 we use now is not and that has not been a problem. Even if a device was truck specific, we would not use many of the features. We keep our own log books and prefer to determine bridge heights on our own.

What GPS Device Would You Recomend Today?

Our Garmin nUvi 750 has served us well but seems about to give up the ghost. Diane and I are now troubleshooting the present device and researching replacement options. Technology changes daily so I thought I'd ask here, what GPS device would you recommend today? Smart phone GPS is not an...

    Kindle Book Recommendations

Do you have a favorite Kindle book to recommend? Share it here. I am having a great time reading Aesop's Fables on my Kindle. It is one of thousands of FREE e-books that can be downloaded from the Kindle store. It is one of many books we now carry in the truck that take up no more space...

    kindle or nook or...ipad?

Leo, your page-turning point is a good one and a feature I have come to fully appreciate as I read my Kindle. It really is easier to hold and read a Kindle than a book. But note the somewhat different purposes readers have. Many have voiced objections about the Kindle precisely because it is...

    kindle or nook or...ipad?

Ahh yes; the book. That thing that does not need batteries, never has to be booted up, does not break when you drop it, can be shared with or gifted to a friend without permission from the person who sold it to you, and stores information for a thousand years in a format that is as good...

    kindle or nook or...ipad?

A valid point of view you have. It illustrates well the fundamentally different approaches. In our truck, our movie viewing (lectures), GPS, phone calling, music listening, e-reading, etc. tend to be done on single-purpose devices dedicated to these specific tasks. The other approach is to...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

As Leo said, space conservation is one benefit, as is picking up instantly where you left off. Diane and I have his and her Kindles and the paper books are rapidly disappearing from our truck. A good-size cabinet that used to hold books will be nearly empty after we get home for Christmas. It...

    kindle or nook or...ipad?

I am a Kindle enthusiast too. No book I have downloaded to my Kindle has been removed. In addition to downloading a book directly to your Kindle, you can download it to your computer and then plug your Kindle into the computer USB port and transfer the book to the Kindle. If a book ever did...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

It is a Wi-Fi router into which you plug an air card. Both of our computers can then access that internet connection, as can both of our Kindles. I have not set it up yet but that's the theory. Importantly, the device is small, about the size of a smart phone. After we sold our house in 2004...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

So readers (including me) may learn more, please explain, why wouldn't you be without it? And, how exactly do you have it set up in your truck?

    E-Book reader, anyone?

This is a good tip. Thank you. We bought today a second Kindle Wi-Fi (not 3G) for Diane and I kept my Wi-Fi Kindle. A Wi-Fi router can be purchased at Best Buy for $100. The price difference between the Wi-Fi Kindle and Wi-Fi/3G model is $50. The $100 we saved on two Wi-Fi Kindles paid for the...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

Amazon says the device will go one month between charges with 3G or Wi-Fi turned off. If you use your computer to download content, it charges automatically while plugged in the USB port. The charging cord is delightfully compact. One end plugs into the device. The other end plugs into your...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

I will be returning my Kindle Wi-Fi to the store to exchange it for a Kindle 3G Wi-Fi. The 3G frees you from using your laptop or finding a Wi-Fi hotspot for content downloads. Having discovered the daily newspapes, blogs and news feeds that are available via Kindle, the automatic and...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

Diane and I made our selection at a Best Buy store where the Kindle, Nook, Sony and at least one other e-reader are on display side by side in a special display placed at the front of the store. We could hold each device in our hands to guage the look and feel. We reviewed the product...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

In the sleeper of a moving truck, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the Mojave Desert, in less time than it takes to tell it, I downloaded onto our new Kindle e-reader a free two-week trial of a business magazine, a thorough preview of a business book I am considering for purchase, a...

    E-Book reader, anyone?

I like the quick access to books too. Get an idea or hear a recommendation, you can be looking at the book within minutes if you wish. As for listening to some books while reading others, I am intrigued by how the Kindle turns the pages for you while reading the book out loud to you (text to...
