FedEx CC Accident 09/17/2014 on PA turnpike

A Custom Critical DR unit was involved in a serious accident early this morning near the 181mm Eastbound on the PA Turnpike. We were in the backup for about an hour or so, before being allowed through approx 02:00. Looked pretty bad, but we were unable to stop, as both lanes were blocked, and...

The Ohio Turnpike east of the 80/90 split, just west of Elyria is closed. They are having everyone get off onto I-90. We haven't even made it to the toll booths yet. Traffic was stopped about 1 mile west of split. Be safe :)

    What Makes a Good Month?

I'm sitting here looking over our numbers from last month, July 2012, and I started wondering, "Did we really have a good month?" I think we did, but I really only have our figures from previous months to compare. So I'm wondering, "What IS a good month, anyway?" I guess there are several...

    Our first 100,000 miles.

Well, we've managed to put in our first 100,000 miles in the truck! Not too bad for 10 months. We've seen some amazing sights and been to some interesting places. Been to 44 of the lower 48, and 7 Canadian provinces. Best of all, we've met some great folks and made some lasting friends. Thanks...

So Much for "Live Free or Die"

Entire article HERE Emphasis mine. The illusion of living in a "free" society is slowly slipping away. The thing that stuck me the most about this (other than the obvious over zealousness of the police in arresting a crime VICTIM) was the seizing of his weapons. Due Process?

    Fall and Winter Together

Not the greatest (taken through our somewhat clean windshield), but a interesting sight. Fall on one side of the road, and Winter on the other. Taken along the western Mass. Turnpike 10/28/2011.

    Good food on the road.

We have been out for three weeks, and just had the best two meals either of us have had so far. We stopped at the Nelson Bros. Restaurant at the Clearwater, Mn Petro. Very good food, nice family atmosphere and friendly staff. And we ate "well" for under $19. Had breakfast meals, but we are both...

    First post in FedEx Forum

Finished with orientation, headed home, then in service sometime tomorrow afternoon! Still have a few things to pack, but most everything is already in the truck. Been a long time, but we are just about there. Hope to see all of you out on the road. Jim & Judy Posted with my Droid EO Forum App

    Shoes, Other Safety Equipment

As we get closer to heading out on the road, we are busy compiling a list of things to bring with us. Today, the question of shoes (boots?) came up. What type of shoes would you recommend? I do not know if steel toed boots are required, or whether that is left up to the driver. We will be...

Late to the FedEx \ TVAL Party?

My wife and I have been following the recent series of forum posts concerning the current state (the perceived state, at least) of the FedEx TVAL/WG/flat rate "situation" with some interest. Now we have yet to haul our first load of expedite freight, in fact, we've not even made it to...

    Finally Getting Started!

Well, it look like, if nothing really out of the ordinary crops up, we'll be headed to orientation the second week or so of August!:D Been a long time in the works, but looks like we've just about got everything in place. Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions over the (almost) last...

Rand McNally TND 710 - Anyone?

Rand MaNally TND 710 - Anyone have this particular unit yet? Thoughts? We stopped at the Rand McNally booth at the MATS this last weekend, where they had the TND 710 on display. Spoke with one of their field testers / drivers for about 20 min. or so. He seemed quite happy with the performance...

    AAA for Straight Truck Expediters?

Does anyone use AAA as an straight truck expediter? Other than discounts on lodging, is there any value to having AAA on the road as a professional driver? (Is it worth the cost?) Are there any other similar programs geared toward truckers in general? I know several of the larger carriers offer...

    Where did it go?

Ok, maybe it is just me, but there used to be a list of the most recent posts, along with a list of the users with the most posts and some other useful statistics located at the very bottom of the main forum page. I no longer see that information. Is it something I have changed in my settings...

    Passport Question

For those of you who travel into and out of Canada: US passports are available in two formats, a book and a card. Which format would you suggest us getting? Or do you have/need both? There is a fairly significant difference in the cost of the book ($110) vs. the cost of the card ($30), but I...

    Ohio CDL / HazMat Process

My wife and I are in the process of obtaining our CDL tempory permits here in Ohio. We are also wanting to get out HazMat endorsements. The Ohio BMV and the TSA websites do not really set out the process for someone who is getting their CDL for the first time. Has anyone recently went through...

DOD Loads & Clearance - FedEx % of loads hauled?

(This is mainly for FedEx drivers, but I value anyone's opinions.) I know some of you we have talked to have mentioned hauling DOD (military/defense) loads and I know you need clearance to be able to do these type of loads. At what point do you apply for said clearance? As we are in the early...
