I've changed the EGR valve and solenoid on my wife's car and it was a piece of cake. They were both right up on top and pretty easy to get at. Repair shop wanted $250 just to do the EGR valve. Picked up the valve up for $60 and the solednoid for $20 at a parts store. Never tried it on a truck...

I'd head home if I was within an hour any day of the week. Fridays and Saturday I'd extend it out to an hour and a half to two hours.

I have heard them referred to as a "carrier's carrier." They don't handle NLM or PTM loads, but I believe they are setup with the GPS alliance. I've heard that a lot of carriers broker loads to them. I've never known anyone that drove for them.
