    " NO EXPEDITORS!"

RE: A lot of places simply don't want expedite vans camping out in their regular parking lot with their retail customers. The Detroiter in particular has a special lot for the expedite vans. I suppose they also don't want the expedite vans taking up a big truck spot. The truck stops make a lot...

ClassB learner w/ air brake endorsement

I know of a couple people that got addresses in different states to take CDL tests. Once you have a CDL, it is valid everywhere, even thought the tests are different in different states. Florida and West Virginia were supposed to be easier states. Ohio is harder. I went through training at...

ClassB learner w/ air brake endorsement

I agree, if you are going to go to the trouble of going to a school, get a Class A CDL. There isn't that much difference in the tests (I've taken both). That said, if all you really need is a license, you can probably just take the test. The hardest part of any CDL test is the pre-trip part. I...

Could A Cargo Van Pay For Itself?

I can say that at one time I ran expedite freight in a F-350 pickup with a topper. The same truck was used for snow plowing in the wintertime. Anytime there was a storm coming at home, I would go out of service, pull off the topper, hook up the snow plow, and make (more) money. I was...

    Cargo van's w/ over 200,000/mi

IMO, it takes a good diesel engine to get high, reliable mileage. Also, for expedite type work you can extend oil changes. It's time and heat / cool cycles that breaks down the oil more than mileage... When the engine is running down the highway 7 or 8 hours a day, the oil lasts a lot longer...

    Forklift damage. Who pays?

I used to run expedited in a brand new F-350 pickup with a nice chrome bumper. What I did was get a piece of heavy angle iron, and weld it to 2" square tubing to go into the trailer receiver. I set it up so that it was about 1-1/2" past the bumper, so that the forklift would "hit" my angle...

    Owner Operator Question

I used to run for CTX in a truck that I used for snow plowing in winter. They called me about every day when I was out of service asking if I was ready to back on. Each time I explained that I was plowing snow, and would be back on when it was done storming. I always made sure it was done...

Need your advice on medical question

You might want to consider what expediting might do to your health. The industry can be very hard on a healthy person, much less someone with diabetes. There's a lot of temptation to turn to caffeine, etc. to push on to complete a run, which is dangerous for someone with a blood sugar problem.

    business insurance?

I'm don't do expediting (anymore) but I do own a business driving vans (roadside assistance). I have a policy written through Auto Owners Insurance that is a combination Commercial Auto policy and Business Liability policy. Don't let anybody convince you don't need both, as a contractor you are...

Verizon. Good coverage, I have had a few dropped calls, but those were 45 miles past nowhere, in the middle of hills.
