    LANDSTAR ?

Our average load for Landstar was 850 miles, and many times we'd get another as soon as we called in, or had 2 loads on the truck. Average run pay was $1.15/mi. If only we could have stayed out more often, we'd have done fine with them.

    Goodbye

LOL You are exactly right Rich! I remember the first time I came off the road and got a "real" job. I was so used to driving for a few hours, then taking a nap, that it took a couple weeks to get back in the groove of working ALL DAY! I had never realized just how little work you actually have...

    Goodbye

Hi all, Took a job at home, so I won't be out there hanging out at the truckstops on weekends! I'll still check the forums from time to time to see if I can help anyone or just stick my nose in LOL! Besides, I still have to sell my truck and van (go check out my classifieds!) Drive Happy! Chris

    Thinking in So Flo

I do think you're crazy to leave such a good job! South FL is a bad area for expediting freight, especially for a single. You may wind up sitting down there for a couple weeks or deadheading all the way up to Atlanta. If this itch for the open road continues, why not see if you can take a...

    Fuel Tax suspension

An article in the Aug/Sept issue of Land Line magazine states that 2 states have temporarily suspended the fuel tax. Indiana's tax of 5% will be suspended from July 1st for 60 days, and Illinois' 5% will be suspended from July 1st to the end of the year. Keep an eye on your fuel tax statements...

    FL 70 Doors

Yes! My FL112 did it too. Besides knocking 6 mos off my life, I almost lost my dog! I can't remember what the temperature was at the time. Even after adjusting them, the passenger door is hard to close, and the driver door is hard to open. We now keep the passenger door locked at all times.

    Reality Check from FedEx CC!!

I feel for you! When something like that would start to happen to us, we'd just start deadheading home. Chances are if we were starting to get pissed off, we needed time off!

Before we can help, tell us where you were running, and where you had to sit. You could have just hit some bad areas. This is going to be a big learning experience. Some areas just don't have the freight. The quicker you learn which loads are truly profitable, the better off you'll be.

    Need Info Fast

Good luck with getting on the road! I'm not sure if it's a national law, or just mine here in NY, but employers are required to allow you to remain on their insurance for 18 months under the COBRA plan. You will have to pay the premiums to your (ex)employer. Gives you time to shop around for a...

    class 8 straight truck....

LAST EDITED ON Jul-14-00 AT 07:07PM (GMT)[p]Personal preference is the key. And MONEY! I have a tag on an FL112. Easy on tolls and tires as opposed to the tandem, you can adjust it to take more weight off your steers, and I got to add on a custom sleeper. Only Truck: The laws changed and it...

    Confused

Not to be mean, but if you want all the toys of an Owner/Operator truck, then you should become one yourself. Most big fleets don't provide CB antennae let alone inverters or fridges! A small fridge costs $600, and if it's left on, it'll drain the batteries. That's alot of expense for an owner...
