Monday Chicago to Atlanta, Wednesday loaded for Detroit. Thursday offered a run to San Francisco, dang why not! Drops Monday, day tripping!

Have you checked the weather forecast? Donner Pass looks really rough . Chains are currently required on all vehicles that aren't 4 wheel drive. By the time you get there, the road may be closed.

Current Conditions

On the bright side, that Flying J in Fernley, NV is always a good place to stop. I've always liked the decor on the inside of that place ;)

The snows banks along that stretch built up by the plows never fails to impress. One year they towered over my van.
I checked Thursday, didn’t realize the weather was so backed up. Might have to get the chains dirty!

CHP records video to show drivers why major interstate is closed in Northern California

This is a good reminder to folks to be mindful. Snoqualmie (Seattle), Columbia River Gorge (Portland) & Donner's Pass (SF) can be serious business this time of year. I always check the weather prior to bidding on these loads because there might be a reason to pass on all those miles.

That pileup was eastbound ....

I hope this message finds you safe & well!!

Made it safely to the other side of the pass (Donner, west bound) mid day. About 54 miles of mandatory chains. Unless 4x4 with snow tires. 30 mph speed limit. About 1/2 of chain zone was bare pavement, interesting drive.

Imagine this...

A complete turnaround of ideals, working from home, unlimited income and hours worked...as many carriers as I want to work for...

Should I become a freight broker? Race to the bottom on rates only improving my income? :D (Evil laugh here)

Thinking about it. $75,000 bond, big deal.

At it again?

Black Jack.jpg

Yup, what can I say. I love playing BlackJack

About a week ago, for some reason a question popped in my head, that I never thought about before with my favorite casino game.

Why is it called BlackJack?
There is nothing special about getting a Black Jack. Why not RedKing, etc.

Why Is Blackjack Called Blackjack?

Chances are even if you play blackjack, you haven’t given much thought to why it’s called blackjack. Here’s why.

When “21” came to America, gambling halls needed a way to promote the game. They offered bonus payouts, including one that paid extra if a black jack (a jack of either spades or clubs) was dealt along with an ace of spades.

As the game became more popular (it’s the most popular casino card game in the world), the bonus payouts became less common and the informal name was the one that stuck, blackjack.

---I guess that answers my question :D

Pretty good outing today.
I'm not sure which was more amazing.
Getting 3 BlackJacks in a row, or walking away when I was up $630
Who am I'm kidding, not giving it all back is more amazing ;)

Well I can't even bring myself to gamble like Roadtime, so another day of research...

2 calls came, 1 no cb 1 too tall freight...got laughed at by a couple brokers asking for $1.60 a mile....found out my carrier did $4.3 billion in 2017 (and changed their name, who knew)

So many random things going on. I'm beginning to realize cargo van freight is kinda a niche thing. Straight trucks bring more business with higher costs. I dunno

I did gross $1000 last week, but started paying tax ahead in January. Have to wait till next year to get that back

No. What's worse than all of that is when the Flying Pilot pumps pump, penny by penny...penny by penny., regardless what you try and do to correct the problem.

I hate when that happens!!! Several times at PJ, but even had that happen at a Murphy gas station recently
And of course, if your patient enough to wait, the slow flow will mostly likely not click off the pump, and give you a nice over flow

What drives me nuts is when the option you want to select on the screen is half way between 2 buttons, and your not sure which is the right one to press.
Congratulations, you just purchased a car wash

Also quoting on all states / all provinces, $120,000 cargo :D That should be funny...

NTL insurance London, Canadians. Not cheap but they understand the commercial side

Edit: corrected, NAL is one of their insurance products

Ran from San Francisco to San Diego Monday night. Was a hoot, L.A. I-5, seven lanes, very little traffic. Had a load offer to Brooklyn, NY, crazy but it sounded good(California thinking?). Didn’t work out, thank goodness.
Right now I'd be all over that too. I've survived am drops in Brooklyn twice now, not that bad

Now straight from Cali,
