Because politics isn’t about left vs right. It’s about Globalists vs Nationalists.
President Trump May have had a majority of so called “Republicans”, but he didn’t have a majority of “Nationalists”.
Those Establishment Republicans couldn’t vote out Obamacare, lol. They ran on it since 2012.
Even though the Republicans have less “control”, there are more people in Congress that are for President Trump than there was in the first 2 years.
Fact-checking lost all credibility.
If there are more people in Congress for Trump now, where's the $5B? Why only $1.375B?
Here's how I see it ...
Trump asked for the money now because he knew he wouldn't get it. He's declared a national emergency because he's the master at creating drama. Coming off of the mid-term elections he's now looking at the re-election campaign. What better way to drum up the base? Trump knows the funding will get hung up in court but ultimately he doesn't care. He's not interested in fixing the problem. He's interested in creating chaos & generating support.
There are over 10M undocumented people living in the US, 2 generations of people. It's obvious to me these folks will never, NEVER get rounded up & deported en masse. If it were 10K people, OK .. maybe .. but 10M ..come on! Some people would like that dream to become reality but it's not gonna happen. In another 10 years, it'll be 3 generations of people. If Trump were the ultimate deal maker he preaches to be, he would offer the Dems citizenship for all 10M+ in return for the funds. The Dems would give him not only $5B ... they'd give him $10B!!!! He could build himself whatever he wants on the border ... nationally he'd be seen as a hero.
Trump is now playing the self preservation game just like all the other politicians we have. If they actually came to that deal & fixed this problem, what leverage would they have over the other party in future disputes. Trump hasn't drained the swamp, he's swimming in it!
Because the Dems are still so butthurt that he won in the first place that they'd rather see the country lose than see Trump win.
The country loses when Trump wins.
The question has less to do with the Dems or the Republicans and everything to do with Trump.
Why didn't he declare this national emergency during his first year in office?

He didn't even need to declare an emergency. He had the votes in the house and senate. This all about embarrassing the Dems, nothing else. Imho.

Definition of emergency: a serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring IMMEDIATE action.

That piddly amount in the bill that he was given for the wall wasn't enough. Dems don't want Trump to get a political win on this issue by fully funding border security and the wall. Dems put politics first to embarrass Trump instead of doing what is right for the country.

I’d say record low unemployment for minorities is evidence of credibility of actually “doing something”, then just talking about it, then following Globalists orders.
President Trump asked the Globalist GOPers to Repeal and Replace Obamacare. He stayed out of it, and let them handle it, and he promised to sign it.
But the Globalist GOP Failed.
If the Globalist GOP couldn’t pass anything on healthcare, something they all openly ran on, then how could Trump possibly get Wall funding?
When Globalists Win, America loses.
Thinking along party lines, the Democrats should have gave the $ for the Wall, no GOP or President Trump himself, could run on it in 2020.
Now, the court will be held up until after 2020, so even if the case wins in the Supreme Court, a Democrat President in 2020 could simply not build the wall, a massive issue now.
Democrats need to shift the narrative to Healthcare. They win on that issue, but now the waters are muddy with illegal immigration.

I didn't dodge the question. I answered it. The border situation has been a national emergency for decades, and Trump tried for 2 years to work with the Dems in Congress to fix the problem, but they're more interested in subverting him politically than they are in securing the border.
They're are currently 31 national emergency declarations all in effect. This one makes it 32. People are acting like this is the first time a national emergency has been declared because a president had been unable to work with Congress. When Obama created DACA, he did so via a declaration of a national emergency.
Fact Checkers became a joke when they started fact checking opinions.
