I got to see a very nice sunrise over the Alleghany Mountains this morning, and of course the groundhog saw his shadow.. so 6 more weeks of winter! Shoot the groundhog, make stew! LOL. I'm so over all this snow... ready for warm weather and spring!
  • King of the Dry Runs!

Well, it's been an interesting week... and I realized I forgot to post my blogs! Rather than post all three, I'm just gonna summarize! I am still the King of Dry Runs LOL. Last Saturday I accepted a short run from Air Expedite picking up in Columbus. Even they're short, those runs pay well on a 'per mile' basis because they're under the 100 mile 'minimum pay' standard. Well, after I committed and waited the weekend, I arrived to find it was two 96" automotive racks... oops. So, back home, then got another short run that finished up the day.
  • Bouncin around!

Sunday after church I went back in service, and promptly got offered a multi-stop run in Indiana for today. Due to the Colts win, there was a demand for their merchandise, and seeing as how expediters are 'on demand' type of business, well, expediters got the call ! I went to a supplier, and spent today bouncing around Central Indiana delivery loads of product.

Well, I delivered in Mississipi just fine... light load, good fuel mileage, not so good a ride... ah well, good to have a load :-) . I was glad to get out of the cold and ice. As I was leaving Illinois, freezing rain was falling... my tires were actually frozen to the ground from sitting still overnight in it. I broke free easily, but spun a bit in the parking lot trying to get moving. On the CB, drivers were talking about how bad it was up North of there, and said highways in the North and West were getting shut down because of fast ice build up.
  • Ice in Peoria

Today I'm sitting near Peoria, Illinois... looking at ice, and snow piled everywhere.. ick! LOL... I got spoiled by those 'warm' 40 something degree days in Ohio while I was running all those short runs last week :-) . Quite a shock to my system to spend a few days in below freezing temps, with snow and ice. Last night temp was 22 with windchill 15.. not really that cold, but it sure felt like it.

Tonight I'm sitting in the Milwaukee, WI area, after a couple of good paying runs. After my week of short runs, I picked up a nice run Saturday afternoon, which delivered in Chicago this morning. I went down those old familiar roads again, Rte 35 to Gallipolis, OH to pick up about 1100 lbs of machine parts. I brought the parts home and spent the weekend with family, going to church, and just generally relaxing. I left last night a little before 11pm, for a 7am delivery. It was a pretty smooth ride, just a ton of fog... and as I got closer to Chicago, the temp dropped, and it turned into freezing fog... in which the droplets in the air were freezing on trees, and yes even the roads, causing some speed happy people to spin out coming down off ramps.
  • Tickin off dispatch... oops!

Last night, I actually upset a dispatcher, and I understand why... I was upset at the time, and she was too, but after looking back, I should have went out of service. I had a short run yesterday, came home..and was hoping for another short run (like I did the day before... 2 small runs.. ) well, of course, I was offered a decent run, about a seven hour drive that picked up at 7:30pm, BUT didn't deliver til 8:00 this morning.

Yesterday was a nice day, not for the huge amount of money I made, but just getting to work, and spend some time with my wife at the same time! I had a short run to West Virginia, then headed back home.. on the way back home, I received an offer for another run picking up in West Virginia, and heading up just West of Dayton, OH. Unfortunately, I was already almost home by the time I accepted it.
  • Be Prepared

Stayed home today due to the bad roads around here. Most of the counties around me are at least at a Level 1 snow emergency. The states around us are bad too, so I just figured it was best to stay home. Watching TV, and seeing all the wrecks around the area, including a 4 fatality horrible wreck involving a bus and a tanker truck, really got me thinking.
  • A Cold Slippery Day

My nerves were frazzled by the time I got back home today. I had a relatively simple run scheduled last night... run over to WV, meet another driver for a transfer, and run it up North of Pittsburgh, PA... a run that would leave me about 250 miles from home... an easy home run. Well, of course, it's a late night pick up, and as I"m heading down thru Southern Ohio, I run into a near white-out, people are sliding around, one goes clear down in a huge ditch beside the road...
