The B-2 bomber more commonly known as the stealth bomber is an amazing plane.   The stealth bomber and the SR-71 Blackbird are two planes that really are very interesting to me.    I read a book called Skunk Works:   A Personal Memoir of My Years of Lockheed by Ben R Rich and Leo   Janos   which was about the SR-71 and how the plane came into existence and all of the initial testing.   I am not really a plane nut but those two planes plus the Harrier I am always willing to stop and learn more about.  

The stealth bomber from the distance we were looks like its nickname the flying wing as it is hard to see where the crew would sit.   Someday we will get lucky enough to get up close and personal with this plane.   We have been able to see a Blackbird up close  at the Hutchison Cosmosphere and Space Center in Kansas.   We have seen the Harrier at a few Air Shows and the pilots do an amazing job of showing what all this plane is capable of.

The stealth bomber has a wing span of 172 feet and looks like an insect on radar.   Northrop Grumman spent ten years developing the plane and billions of dollars.   The pilots actually control a computer and the computer controls the plane and the flaps.   Flying wings have a history of being an unstable airplane.   The stealth bomber needs only two person crew – a pilot and a mission commander who sits in the cockpit of the plane.   The B-2 usually flies with some fighter jet protection.   The risk of losing such an aircraft is too great to send it into battle solo.

We are always thrilled when we see something unexpected and enjoy these experiences.
