No ‘Fire inside’: Motor City bans idling for diesel trucks

Mar 15, 2010 - 9:45:18 AM | By Charlie Morasch, staff writer - Land Line

Detroit may be known for Bob Seger, the Big Three automakers, and a $300 million city budget shortfall, but its leaders want truckers to know one thing first: Idling beyond five minutes is prohibited.

This week, the Detroit City Council approved an ordinance limiting idling to five minutes during any one-hour period.

The ordinance exempts commercial truck drivers who are stuck in traffic.

The ordinance was sponsored by Councilman Ken Cockrel Jr.
