The U.S. House passed a resolution on Wednesday, March 10, to compensate U.S. DOT employees who were sent home this past week during a political flap over funding in the Senate.
Approximately 2,000 Department of Transportation employees were home without pay on March 1 and 2 after the Senate failed to pass a routine departmental funding extension. That extension has since been passed.
With funding restored, the House moved Wednesday to pass resolution HR4786 to pay the furloughed employees of the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Transit Authority.
Congress continues to clash over solutions to short-term and long-term funding for transportation.
The Highway Trust Fund has been surviving on temporary funding extensions since the authorization bill known as SAFETEA-LU expired in September 2009.
