The national average retail price of a gallon of diesel rose just over a cent to $2.817 during the week ending May 28, almost 7 cents lower than the same week in 2006.
Residents in the Rockies were paying the most for a gallon of diesel -- $2.98, this despite a drop of more than 1 cent from the week before. The second-highest price per gallon was in the West Coast, where users paid $2.939 for diesel.
The nation’s cheapest diesel was in the Gulf Coast region at $2.776.
