Customized Solution

We were going to be in town for a couple of days and did not want to take up a parking spot at the local truck stops. The thinking cap went on as we also did not feel safe parking at a retail center even with permission from the owner. Next came the thought of a locally owned storage unit about two miles from their house.

The first questions asked were, how big is the truck and then explaining that, how long are you going to leave it, and will the truck be idling. Even after the explanation of the length there was still some confusion but the owner said no problem, I have a couple ideas of where you can park and the area is gated. Once I see the truck I will know for sure what spot will work.

When we arrived the height of the truck intimidated her but the parking spot was perfect and we were able to easily stop by each day and check on our truck. The owner of the business did not want a contract nor did we have to sign our lives away to park there. She gave us the gate code and said call me you are coming to town and I will let you know what spot I have available. Her prices were more then reasonable to have our truck parked in a safe area under lock and near our children's home.

We are hearing more and more stories about trucks being towed or booted while parked at retail stores. During our visit we knew we would not be shopping and then moving on and that our truck was going to be left unattended for extended periods of time. The solution of being in a gated area gave us peace of mind.

This was a great reminder that often if a customized solution is needed going with a smaller company can solve your problem. Kind of reminds me of the customer's problems we solve as expediters.
