New initiative touts Michigan as connected vehicle hub
MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. — Business, university and transportation leaders are launching an initiative to promote Michigan as a leader in the research and development of self-driving cars, connected vehicles and other new auto technologies.
The Michigan Mobility Initiative was announced Wednesday at the Detroit Regional Chamber's policy conference on Mackinac Island.
The group has mapped 28 Michigan facilities that play a role in developing smart mobility technology. The coalition will use the map to promote Michigan's assets to startups, entrepreneurs and others.
The coalition includes the chamber's MICHauto initiative, the Michigan Economic Development Corp., Business Leaders for Michigan, the state Transportation Department and the University Research Corridor.
The coalition's goals include meeting industry demands, promoting Michigan as the premier state of next-generation research and ensuring the education system trains students to join the sector.
