Navy Relieves USS Taylor CO After Ship Ran Aground | Military.com.

This was not good. His career-- there is a good chance it is in the toilet. Why it happens, do not know. If you think there is a Captain on the bridge 24/7 like in the ww2 movies,,not. There are more people involved in docking, hey, I was aboard ship for 9 months, we never ran aground and the Constellation was about a 1000 ft long. I hate to see a Commander lose command, surely his fitness reports showed he was a competent person. I wonder ..................

COs are relieved as part of the inquiry proccess, his carreer isn't neccesarily over, but it probly is. If your ship runs aground it means you were close to land, which means the CO should have been on the bridge, the CO is responsable for the safe navigation of the vessel, he has total authority on board the ship, therefore he has total responsability.

Very few organisations place such authority in middle management, but the military still does. In the military with authority comes accountability.
