The issue at hand is they don't want the pipeline run through Indian land, or across the Missouri River upstream from Indian land. They have a point.

One problem is that the oil pipeline would parallel an existing (albeit underground) natural gas pipeline, so the argument is somewhat weakened.

The other problem, and the one that destroys their argument, is they now want to dictate details and conditions of the pipeline in areas that are nowhere near Indian land, pretty much from end to end of the entire pipeline.

At first it was sposta go north of Bismarck but it was decided it was to dangerous for the population of Bismarck so if it is to dangerous for one population whybrid isn't just as dangerous for another

The illusion of being environmentally friendly by stopping pipelines.
The only concern I have is that if the pipeline was unsafe to run nOrth of Bismarck way is it safe to run south of Bismarck

Some of that is the not in my back yard syndrome , or the well off have more influence
