Ok, so too much idle time for thinking, but how does this work? Say you click on "New Posts" and get the list up to date at that moment. You scroll through the list and maybe read one thread. You click the back button and return to the list of new posts which is now 3 minutes old. Unbeknownst to you there have been 2 new posts in 2 threads in those 3 minutes. You now click the "Mark Forums Read" button. Does it just mark everything from your 3 minutes old list as read or does it also mark the 2 new posts you don't know about as well?

It is what is says. Mark forums read. After you click back, refresh, then if nothing new , mark forums read.

It depends on which "Mark Forums Read" link you use. When you click "New Posts" what you see is actually the results of a search.

The link in the nav bar always marks all threads.

The link on the New Posts page on the right only does the threads fetched for that search. So if you hit the back button and the previous page is loaded from the browser cache, unless you refresh (do another search, in effect) and see the 2 new posts, those 2 new posts won't be marked read since they aren't part of the search.

That's how I thought it might work but I wasn't sure. Thanks.
