Air compressor issue on 2006 Freightliner

Just resealed the engine timing cover on 2006 Freightliner m2 box truck with CAT engine. A day later the truck overheated on its first run, diagnostic says coolant in air brake system due to bad air compressor. Needs air compressor and pressure regulator and flush air brake lines and system. my question is, is that something that could be a result of the first repair due to what was pulled off to access the engine timing cover then put back together, possibly incorrectly? Or is this just bad luck and unrelated?

Im not fluent with Cat engines but
Engine coolant is used to cool most Bendix compressors through a coolant plate in the head so it is possable for the air and coolant to cross.
Look up cat engine air compressors and engine coolant at bendix.com

If an older high milage compressor was removed long enough for the gaskets to dry and start shrinking any minor cracks would have opened up.
By looking at the diagram it looks like the air passes through the cooling plate coolant was probably sucked into the air systeme on the low side.
Depending on milage and maintenance it may have been its time to go.

Good Luck
