New Husband and Wife Team, looking for advice and information

Will you be in a dry box or a reefer/TVAL truck? There is quite a difference between the two. We have only ever been in a TVAL truck. I don't know if I would really call what we do "expedited freight." More like "specialized freight", not unlike what you mentioned in your intro post. Be glad to...

    How about those gas prices???

Politicians, maybe not so much. Oil executives and speculators? Probably a little bit.

    How about those gas prices???

Did YOU read the SECOND paragraph? The one that points out that the price tends to decline in election years more so than in non-election years? Which was my point.

    How about those gas prices???

Some years just seem to be a little more "equal" than others. Draw your own conclusions. http://mobile.businessweek.com/articles/2012-11-06/the-oddities-of-election-year-gasoline-prices

    How about those gas prices???

Amazing how those gas prices plummet right before an important election ;)

    Life Changes

Good luck, Joe! Sorry to see you guys go, but know it's for the right reasons. Thanks for the advice you gave us when we were first getting started. Wish we could have met up more often than we did, it was always fun :) Hope to make it up to go fishing sometime! Good luck, my friend!! And give...

FedEx CC Accident 09/17/2014 on PA turnpike

A Custom Critical DR unit was involved in a serious accident early this morning near the 181mm Eastbound on the PA Turnpike. We were in the backup for about an hour or so, before being allowed through approx 02:00. Looked pretty bad, but we were unable to stop, as both lanes were blocked, and...

    Getting into straight-truck

You only need a class B in a straight truck. Also, it doesn't matter how much the truck weighs, it matters how much it's rated to carry (GVWR).

    Three months of flat rate

We've seen far fewer surface loads. (We're in a DR-TVAL truck.) Fewer, if any weekend runs. For some reason, we've also been seeing monday loads being dispatched on Thursday. Not sure why they're dispatching loads out that far. Hard to turn down some of those loads, but would prefer to work 5...

    Reefer times

Interesting article, that somewhat addresses the subject of insulation breakdown in reefer trailers and trucks. http://www.foodlogistics.com/article/10316279/keeping-the-cold-air-inside Moisture is the enemy.

    Truck Stop Restaurants

Re: Forget I bothered Servers have a difficult job. Two sisters and two nieces have made this their career choice. (Bob Evans) They make decent money. We always leave at least $5.00, no matter the size of the bill. (20% minimum.) Glad someone is willing do it.

    Another Obama Smackdown from SCOTUS

That would be your call, and I don't think the folks at Hobby Lobby would really care what you did with your Own Business. Finding folks willing work those days might be a problem!

How long do you stay out ?

We left home last year right after Easter. Went home December 20th for Christmas and New Years. A little much. (Were off for a week in July for a family vacation, and went to the expo.) Our owner would prefer at least 2 months out, then 2 weeks off. 2 weeks is way too much time off. We're in a...

    Total Choas at the FED

Not our best month, especially considering we have been out all month. Too much sitting, and the rates (TVAL) have been crazy at times. Too many short loads offered. We may be seeing the "Can't go to Cali" effect :( or an unintended consequence of the flat rate. Somethings going on, and it ain't...

    The Tea Party Strikes Again.

Think you might be confusing the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson had very little, if any thing to do with writing the Constitution. :D

    Flat rate???

Why yes, Zorry, we do have one of the "Undesirable" Carriers, lol Looking a little deeper at last year, We ran a total of 7 true Surface Expedite runs. Those runs accounted for 9503 total miles (8462 loaded, 1041 unloaded) They paid the truck $17,453.77 @ $1.84 all miles (There was $58.91 in...
