Expedite Expo 50 Things to do at Expedite Expo 2006

lawrence, will the actual cast of "trick my truck" be there, or will there just be representatives from the company there? the reason i ask is that is my 3 1/2 year-old son's favorite show and it's a 3 hour drive from home. if some of the cast members are there i'm sure he's going to flip if he...

What do you listen to on sattelite radio?

xm10 "america" classic country, especially nrray's shows "the woodshed" and "outlaw america" xm12 "xcountry" when they get on a texas music kick xm13 "hank's place" the honky-tonk channel and of course, "open road", though dave nemo played a lot more music when he was on am radio. it is...

    Tri-State or Conway now

holy cow, that driver was lucky. looks like it used to be a t2000. can't say i'd want to wreck one, i've seen a few wrecked and one looked worse than that. hard to believe a 6-wheeler could tear up a tractor that bad. just glad to hear that everyone walked away from it.

Welcome New Moderator - Terry O'Connell

welcome aboard terry. your knowledge and sense of humor will be appreciated here. i had the opportunity to hang out with you on several occasions when i had a van leased on with conway. i left the business for family reasons two years ago, but i still check out this site from time to time...

    Load Securement

when i was still expediting, sometimes i'd get a load consisting of a single drum. i would have it loaded where i wanted it (NOT on a skid) and click 2x4 sockets into the e-track in the floor just ahead of and behind the drum. then i would ratchet strap front-to-back over the 2x4s which kept the...

    r i p dave dudley

i've enjoyed dave dudley's music since i was knee-high to a pup, and always kept a couple of his tapes with me when i was still an active driver. there aren't many artists out there doing his style of country anymore, seems like joey holliday and red simpson are the only ones really keeping it...

hey, thanks for all the kind words, you guys! this contest is great, i hope you keep it going, and i must say, i really had to think long and hard to remember where it was that i saw that ol' freightshaker. it about drove me nuts, as i haven't been to that stop in a while. guess i just love them...

this song sounds like it was written by an expedit

i got to thinking this song by the bottlerockets sounds waaaaaaayyy too familiar. www.altcountrytab.com/bottlerockets/indianapolis.htm i'll bet more than a few "b unit" drivers can relate (especially the chevy/gmc guys!)

    song search

was that a song or just a comedy tape? i remember dave nemo playing tapes of a guy named mike perry from wisconsin who talked about a town called foggy crossing and one of them was about the fire dept. i think the chief's name was harvey bungle or something like that. are we on the same page?

3/4 Ton or 1 Ton Van? GM, Ford or Chrysler?

go for the 1-ton, you never know when you might have to load it down. as for brand preference, i ran a chevy, but each has its merits. chevy has the best gas engines, but ford has the best diesel.(at least until the dmax is available in the vans). while the old 350's were good for 500-600k miles...

Cargo Van vs. Local Company Driver

i used to drive for con-way now and was generally happy with them. i left the business a year ago for family reasons, but if i were to ever go back on the road i would probably give them a call. anyway, i never had any problem getting freight out of chicago since that was about our best area...

    LETS BETTER OUR INDUSTRY

"alligator rick" is a good guy too. i don't know how many places i've run into him- his van is always easy to spot. and the only reason i never brought one of my hounds out on the road with me is because i've been to places where i would worry about their safety. that doesn't mean i would have a...

    Cost for Van Wash

and when you spend the $10 at a truck wash, you get a receipt. when you spend $7-8 at a self-serve bay, you have to cross your fingers and hope the irs takes your word for it. and if you stay out 2-3-4 weeks at a time and like to wash your van every week (i'm a clean freak) that's a pretty good...

    Band Together???!!!???

treeman, this sounds like a conversation i had with a group of drivers at the detroiter a while back. but our theory on rates was to stay close to what the established carriers were charging and concentrate on service. and a concept like you are talking about has a distinct advantage in that...

    I'm Freezing !!!! ---- HELP !!!

a sleeper with an insulated bulkhead helps. i used to get the interior warm with the heater and shut the engine off then crawl in my sleeping bag and close the sleeper curtains. that way your body heat is confined to a 24"x 40"x 72" space. i would sleep like a baby until the morning when it...
