    lease purchase

RE: lease purchase...Well.. ACTUALLY... :-) when the time came to lay off drivers, and it inevitibly would, they would be laying off drivers in company ownned trucks. Then they would be making payments on trucks that were not making them any money. At the end of the lease they would be stuck with...

OOIDA - June is 'By The Book Month'

It's a good idea, and may work,IF you could get everyone,or most everyone to do it. Any changes would have to come from the Federal Gov't. to get carriers and shippers to co-operate. More regulations rarely (if ever) result in more money for drivers. claiming time at the dock etc; as "on duty"...

    sleeper install

If your interested I have a 60 inch sleeper available. Nothing fancy. It has 2 small closets with shelves on top where I put my microwave and TV. Small electric cooler fit on floor of one of the closets. Has 2 bunks. I only ran team for a short period and generally used the upper bunk for...

    Border-Crossings

My only gripe is the wait time, and this usually was the fault of the broker. I have no problem when it comes to security-related delays. Last few times thru, took over 3 hours. Of course there is no compensation for this time. If your on a long run,now you have to fudge your log book to make up...

    Irag

It was a pre-emptive strike. The topic,as I recall, started out with reference to how this all affected expediting,or at least 1 expediters job. Last time I was able to read,I saw nothing offensive, however, the discourse may well have gone south.Again, I can only speak of what I saw,but removing...

Cities that really need a truck stop

Syracuse has a pilot ex 25 i think off 81 right near the thruway. And I think they are building a Flying J near Seneca falls off the thruway. For providence or boston I go to Rt 1 off 495. I have it written down in the truck but I cant remember if its rt 1 north or south. Has a decent diner...

How much fuel surcharge do drivers get.

If you get .10 per mile and 10 mpg thats 1.00 per gal. I think thats pretty good. The most I've paid for diesel is 2.03 per gal. Even at that rate it brings the cost per gal down to 1.03. Am I missing something? Thats a pretty reasonable cost per gal.(IMHO)

    Fuel Surcharge

What criteria detemine if a fuel surcharge is going to be paid, and how much it will be? Who pays the surcharge? I heard that the owner-operator may only recieve a % of the surcharge. I heard that the surcharge is paid to the carrier and is determined by the gross charge for the shipment,not...

    Diesel Fuel Gelling

I always carry an extra set of fuel filters and a can of additive to fill them with. It's cheap insurance and paid off once already this year.I also use the power service fuel additive at every fill up. I have found I get an extra mile to the gallon,so it more than pays for itself.

    D5261 Forced Retirement

Hi Murphy, I'm not surprised, but yes frustrated. I never made the money I was told to expect, and have realized and accepted that I am only a number to a large company. Obviously things have changed alot in the last few years.Less freight to haul and significantly higher fuel rates to contend...

    HELP US DECIDE

I'm with FedEx,and get to Roanoake and Washington and some points in between fairly often. This year in a real good week as a team we did about 3200. There weren't too many of those weeks. An average might be more like 2000. I don't think we ever did any better than 3200 but have done worse than...

    D5261 Forced Retirement

Thanks for the advice and good will. I don't think I would consider a lawyer in this matter. First they have much deeper pockets than I do, and besides, I don't want to work for a company that doesn't want me. I'm going to call again and try and get them to change thier mind, maybe I can get...

    FUEL PRICES

I just got back to NY from Ontario. Fuel in Ont was .79 per litre,3.8 litres to a gal. In NY you can get fuel for 1.69 per gal. Or you could run down to the flying J just over the Pa line on rt 81. Fuel in Canada, with an exchange of 35% comes to 1.95 per gal.The Flying J and TA at exit 48A off...

    D5261 Forced Retirement

I recieved a regisrtered letter from FedEx CC the other day. Due to the age of my truck they are terminating my lease. The truck was inspected and approved by FedEx in November. Now as of March 15th it is no longer worthy to wear the FedEx logo. Not due to break-downs or poor looks or low...

    What Expediting companies should know

I agree on handling freight etc; the companies have nothing invested in this. I guess billing etc; has some costs, but not 50% or better! I also think someone should have to pay for delays at customs and brokers that are not the drivers fault. I usually have no problems crossing the border and...

    "Band Together--Two??!!??"

Please read my reply on your original post. This wouldnt be difficult to do. The reasons for replacing whats in operation now are all over this board. This is an opportunity to run an expedite company the way we all think it should be. We don't really have much to lose, do we?

    Band Together???!!!???

We all obviously have computers, and we all have TRUCKS!! We all know where the freight is comming from and going to. If operating under one authority, the expense would not be that great. We are already spread out all over the country. If I understand correctly there is a lot of freight bid on...

Need help Finding a good Truck

Check out truckpaper.com They usually have a pretty good selection and some reasonable prices. I would not hesitate to buy used, just check out the maintenence etc; My truck was owned by Busch leasing and came with maintenence records. Oil changed every 9-11 thousand miles. I have run it for 3...

Tri-States new short haul division? Thoughts?

FedEx also has a program similiar to this. I don't know if they have a name for it but they call them regional drivers. I think they only get loads up to 200 miles. I also was told they were only hiring teams in my area. Maybe this is a way to cover the short runs a team or someone away from...
